𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱, 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻!

Heavy rain can lead to flooded roads fast, and driving through them is never worth the risk. Here are a few quick tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:

𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿.
Just 6 inches can stall your engine, and a foot of water can carry away most cars.

𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.
If your usual route is flooded, find an alternate. Don’t try to “test” the depth.

𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
Water could be deeper than it looks, and hide sharp debris, open manholes, or fast-moving currents.

𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 before heading out. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office regularly posts various Road Closures on our Nextdoor feed: https://bit.ly/VCSONextdoor

DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA is committed to making our communities safer and healthier, and we can do this by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths. While the community does its part to turn in unneeded medications and remove them from potential harm, we are doing our part to further reduce drug-related violence.

October 10 is World Mental Health Day, a reminder that mental health matters, and everyone deserves access to care, support, and the opportunity for a healthier future.

At the Vanderburgh County Jail, we understand that many individuals entering our facility face mental health challenges. For some, their time in custody may be an opportunity to receive treatment, connect with resources, and begin making positive changes in their lives.

Through community partnerships with organizations like Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare and ECHO Housing & Community Development, we work to connect individuals with mental health services, counseling, treatment, and resources that can help them both during incarceration and as they transition back into our community.

Our deputies, jail officers, and staff also receive training to help them recognize and respond to mental health concerns with professionalism, understanding, and compassion.

We believe that addressing mental health needs is about more than providing care while someone is in custody. It's about helping individuals build healthier futures, reducing the likelihood of reoffending, strengthening families, and creating a safer community for everyone.

On World Mental Health Day, we're grateful for the community partners and dedicated staff who help make this important work possible. Everyone deserves the opportunity for a fresh start.

Our future in law enforcement was well represented at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival Thursday night!

Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 82 members Taby Horn and Angel Espino spent the evening alongside our deputies and jail officers in the VCSO tent, meeting community members, helping with activities and getting some hands-on experience with the community engagement side of law enforcement.

VCSO Explorer Post 82 is a career-oriented youth program for young men and women ages 16 to 20 who are interested in law enforcement and the criminal justice system. The program gives participants an opportunity to learn more about the profession, develop leadership skills and gain valuable experience while working alongside members of the Sheriff's Office.

We love seeing our Explorers get involved, build confidence and make connections with the community. Thanks to Taby and Angel for spending their Thursday evening with us!

Interested in exploring a future career in law enforcement? Learn more about Explorer Post 82 and how to get involved at https://vanderburghsheriff.org/youth-programs/

WHAT A WEDNESDAY AT THE FALL FESTIVAL!

Slap bracelets, lots of smiles, Evansville Police Department hugs, fist bumps, new friends, familiar faces, and we even got to meet Happy George of Happy George’s Sing a Grams! What more could we ask for?

A HUGE thank you to all of our amazing contenders who stepped up for Major Rasure’s Fall Festival Fitness Challenge! From push-ups to sit-ups, you brought your best, and we were seriously impressed! We had some tough competition, plenty of encouragement, and a few new Community First t-shirts walking around Franklin Street!

The challenge was also a fun way to give everyone a little taste of the physical fitness standards required to become a deputy. If you've ever thought about a career in law enforcement, we'd love to talk with you! Stop by our tent this week to learn more about joining the VCSO team.

But the best part of the day was spending time with YOU! Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello, share a laugh, take a picture, or just hang out.

We love Fall Festival week, and we're not done yet! See you on Franklin Street!
