A place where people can be close to nature and enjoy a diversity of trees and shrubs.

Many of the trees and shrubs seen at the Hartman Arboretum are native to Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky, also know as the Shawnee Hills area. New plant varieties that are not common to this area can also be observed. We have a thriving wildlife garden that attracts thousands of butterflies. Late summer or early fall are the best times to see the butterflies in full array.

Fall colors are starting to show here at the Arboretum! We’re looking forward to sharing foliage and friends at our Fall Open House in just over two weeks; join us Saturday, November 7, 9am-12pm, for what should be a beautiful day! 🍁🍂

We would like to feature some of the wonderful community partners who we are excited to have at our upcoming Fall Open House on Saturday, November 7, starting with Southwest Chapter Indiana Native Plant Society!

INPS is an organization dedicated to promoting native plants of Indiana, and our local chapter is full of amazing plant enthusiasts who do great work in our community. From plant sales to educational events to seed swaps to partnerships with local parks and libraries for gardens and speakers and more, this group does so much in our community to educate and support the spread of native plants!

We’ve been fortunate to benefit from the expertise and support of INPS-Southwest as members have been an integral part of our annual Butterfly Day event and the Hartmans have learned lots and met so many people through our membership. 💚

Come learn more about this amazing organization at the Fall Open House! They will also have some native plants for sale, kids crafts, and more info about native plants!

Plan to join us to discover native plants, bugs, art, local honey, and more fun in the fall at the Arboretum!

We had a great time on our Tree ID hike today, discovering the many tree varieties here at the Arboretum with city arborist Shawn Dickerson from Evansville Urban Forestry! 🌳🌲

Shawn will be back with us on Thursday morning 9-11am for our W**d Wrangle with Vanderburgh Co. CISMA. So even if you missed us today, we hope you’ll join us to keep learning about invasive species and removal this week! 🪏💚

Excited to welcome a group of Center for Innovation & Change students to work with us this semester! This class is looking at revamping our rain garden area by the pond this semester. They will do some of the cleanup at our Volunteer Day on September 26, 8:30-11am, so if you’d like to learn more about their work and help us out here at the Arboretum, we hope to see you then too!
