🚒 Structure Fire – Dunbar Avenue

On Saturday, October 10, at approximately 9:19 p.m., ESFD units were dispatched to the 400 block of Dunbar Avenue for a reported residential structure fire.

With multiple EMS calls occurring simultaneously, Pumper 2 and the Officer in Charge responded with limited staffing.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions coming from a second-story bedroom. Residents confirmed that everyone had safely evacuated the home but advised that several cats remained inside.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior fire attack and were able to contain the fire, limiting its spread to other areas of the residence.

During operations, one cat was located in an unaffected area of the home. The status of the remaining cats is currently unknown.

Unfortunately, the residence sustained significant damage, and the occupants have been displaced.

One firefighter was treated on scene for heat exhaustion and subsequently released. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our mutual aid partners for their assistance with firefighting operations and for providing additional emergency coverage to the citizens of Excelsior Springs during the incident.

Mutual Aid Agencies:

* City of Liberty, Mo. Government
* Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District
* Fishing River Fire Protection District
* Ray County Ambulance District

Thank you to all responding personnel for their hard work and teamwork. 🚒

🔥 What’s been going on behind the Fire Department?

We’ve seen a few posts and questions this week wondering what all the activity has been behind the Fire Department.

Over the past two days, ESFD has hosted a multi-department live fire training at our training tower alongside firefighters from the Smithville and Kearney Fire Departments.

Live fire training gives our personnel the opportunity to sharpen existing skills, learn new techniques, and operate in realistic fire conditions. Just as importantly, training together gives neighboring departments the opportunity to build familiarity and teamwork before we find ourselves working side-by-side during an actual mutual aid emergency.

We did see one comment suggesting that “they must be getting ready for a really big fire.”

And really… that couldn’t be more true.

We certainly don’t want the “big one” to happen, but preparing for large-scale and complex incidents makes all of us better, safer, and more effective when they do.

Train together. Work together. Be ready together. 🚒🔥

🚒🧽 C-Shift stopped by the Tigers Car Wash Fundraiser today to show some support… and make sure they had plenty of work to do!

The Excelsior Springs 5th Grade Football & Cheer Team is out at AutoZone today raising funds, and what better way for ESFD to help than by showing up with a few vehicles that could definitely use some attention. 😂

The kids did a great job getting the trucks cleaned up and looking sharp!

If you’re out and about today, stop by, get your ride cleaned up, and help support these young Tigers! 🐯🏈📣

Great job, kids… and thanks for taking care of C-Shift’s chores for the day!

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed.

Today, the members of the Excelsior Springs Fire Department pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the extraordinary courage of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, and ordinary citizens who answered the call to help others.

We also remember those whose lives were forever changed in the years that followed and those who continued to serve despite the lasting effects of that day.

A quarter century has passed, but the courage, sacrifice, and unity shown on September 11th remain worthy of our remembrance.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we are proud to recognize several members of the Excelsior Springs Fire Department who once again participated in the Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

Assistant Chief Zac St. John, Captain Jason Ortbals, Firefighter/EMT Jonah McKennon, Firefighter/Paramedic Trista Tharp, Firefighter/EMT Kaden Spear, Firefighter/EMT Ryder Rempel, and Firefighter/EMT Leslie Vassmer each took part in the climb to honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Each participant climbs in remembrance of a fallen firefighter, carrying their name and memory throughout the climb. It is a physically demanding tribute, but more importantly, it is a promise that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember those who answered the call that morning and honor the firefighters, first responders, and civilians whose lives were lost.

We are proud of our ESFD members for continuing to represent our department and community through this meaningful tradition.

Never Forget. 🇺🇸

🚨 UPDATE 11:00: Due to units clearing emergent calls for service the testing will be delayed a a few minutes 🚨

🚨 Outdoor Warning Siren Test – Today at 11:00 AM 🚨

The Excelsior Springs Fire Department will conduct its regularly scheduled monthly outdoor warning siren test today at 11:00 AM.

Routine testing is an important part of ensuring our outdoor warning system is functioning properly during Missouri's severe weather season. Like any emergency equipment, warning sirens must be tested on a regular basis to verify they are ready when they are needed most.

Outdoor warning sirens are just one part of a layered emergency notification system. They are designed to alert people who are outdoors that a dangerous situation may exist and to seek additional information. Residents and visitors should never rely on sirens as their only means of receiving emergency warnings.

We encourage everyone to use multiple methods of receiving alerts, including:

📱 Wireless Emergency Alerts on your mobile phone
📻 NOAA Weather Radio
📺 Local television and radio broadcasts
🌐 Trusted weather apps and local emergency information

For our guests visiting Excelsior Springs during the FIFA World Cup, today's scheduled test is an opportunity to become familiar with the sound of our community's outdoor warning sirens. If sirens sound at any time other than a scheduled test, seek additional information immediately and follow guidance from local officials.

Regular testing helps ensure this critical public safety system is ready to protect everyone in our community, residents and visitors alike.
