National Weather Service Issues Coastal Flood Advisory From 6PM Today Through 6PM Sunday and a Wind Advisory From 2PM Today Through 6AM Sunday

Fair Lawn Emergency Management is monitoring a Nor’easter that will affect our area starting later tonight through Monday morning. Rain will continue on and off through Monday morning. The heaviest rain and wind will occur Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. Total rainfall is expected to be around 2–3 inches for the entire event.

Runoff may result in minor flash flooding of rivers, small creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Urban flooding of low-lying and poor-drainage areas is likely.

Moderate tidal flooding is possible for this event, especially the southern end of the Hackensack and Passaic Rivers. This may occur starting with this evening’s high tide and continue through Saturday evening’s high tide.

Winds will be 15–20 mph, with gusts to 45 mph. Winds may cause downed tree limbs, resulting in power outages.

Please use caution. Fair Lawn Emergency Management will continue to monitor the situation and issue additional bulletins as necessary.

State Police Seeking Public’s Assistance with Serious Hit-and-Run Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation

Earlier today, September 20, at approximately 4:34 a.m., a Saddle Brook Twp. police officer was on a traffic stop of a grey Nissan Maxima on Interstate 80 eastbound, milepost 62.4, in the deceleration lane of I-80 eastbound. While outside the vehicle, an unknown vehicle traveling east struck the left side of the Maxima and the Saddle Brook Twp. police officer. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene. As a result of the crash, the officer sustained serious injuries. The three occupants of the Nissan sustained no injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about events before, during, or after the incident is asked to contact Troop “B” Totowa Station at 973-785-9412.

Anonymous tips are welcome.

MOVE OVER. SLOW DOWN. When you see emergency responders, law enforcement, tow truck operators, highway workers, or a disabled vehicle stopped on the side of the road with flashing lights, New Jersey’s Move Over Law requires you to safely move over one lane when possible. If you cannot safely move over, slow down below the posted speed limit and be prepared to stop.

This year, as we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember every life lost that day, those who continue to suffer from 9/11-related illnesses, and especially our own Fair Lawn residents who never made it home:

• Susan Huie
• Jennifer Lynn Kane
• Richard D. Rosenthal

This year, we are honored to share a special video message from Gordon Huie, who lost his sister, Susan, on 9/11. His message is simple and powerful: we must never forget, and we must continue to make the world a better place. We encourage everyone to share this so that our younger generations will know what happened and never forget.

May their memories always be a blessing. We will remember them today, tomorrow, and always.

Please join us this evening at Borough Hall at 5:00 PM sharp as we come together to remember and honor those we lost. 🇺🇸

Yesterday marked the 8th anniversary of the passing of Officer Edward Egan #174. Today, current and retired members of the Fair Lawn Police Department gathered at Ed’s memorial flagpole, as we have every year for the past eight years, to honor his memory and pay tribute to a brother who will never be forgotten. Chief Dawicki shared a message, followed by a prayer from our Chaplain, Father Sam. Also two new benches built by Eagle Scout Candidate Anthony Vasquez and his fellow Scouts from Troop 60 - Troop of 🦅’s were unveiled.

Thank you to everyone who came out to remember Ed. Eight years later, we continue to honor his life, his service, and his memory. We will never forget.

The first day of school is here! We’re excited to welcome all of our students, teachers, and families back for another great school year.

Our School Resource Officers will be at every school, and the Fair Lawn Police Department will be out in full force today and throughout the school year to help keep everyone safe.

A few DO’s & DON’Ts for the first day:

✅ DO leave a little earlier than usual.
Traffic will be heavier, and yes… everyone seems to forget how to drive on the first day. 😂

✅ DO be patient and courteous in the drop-off and pick-up areas.

✅ DO pull all the way up in the designated drop-off zones so everyone behind you can keep moving. (This seems to be the hardest thing for people)

✅ DO pay attention to parking signs and follow the posted restrictions. (This one too)

🚫 DON’T stop in the middle of the road “just for a second.” We promise, your child will survive the extra 10 feet to the curb. 😉

🚫 DON’T block crosswalks, driveways, or intersections.

🚫 DON’T rush. Pedestrian safety is our #1 priority.

👀 Drivers — Put down the pumpkin spice latte’s (it’s not even October yet) slow down, stay alert, and watch for children crossing the street. (Read this one twice)

Most importantly, let’s start the school year off right. Give yourself some extra time, have some patience, and remember that everyone is trying to get where they need to go.

Welcome back, Fair Lawn! Have a safe, happy, and successful school year! Fair Lawn Public Schools

This morning at 6:34 a.m., FLPD responded to two pedestrians struck at Broadway/32nd Street. Upon arrival, officers, with assistance from Fair Lawn and Bergen County EMS, rendered aid to the 47-year-old mother and her 5-year-old child, both Fair Lawn residents. Both were transported to Hackensack Hospital. The child suffered severe head injuries, and the mother suffered minor injuries.

The driver ultimately fled the scene. Investigative work by Fair Lawn Detectives located the vehicle and driver in a neighboring town. With the assistance of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the driver was taken into custody, charged with several crimes and motor vehicle summonses, and transported to the Bergen County Jail.

The FLPD would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that if you are involved in a crash, the right thing to do is summon the police for assistance and not leave the scene.

If we all take a moment and care for each other, we can accomplish so much more.

This past week, our Fair Lawn Police Department Junior Police Academy cadets had an incredible experience filled with learning, teamwork, and unforgettable memories!

Throughout the week, cadets participated in drill instruction, learned about drug and alcohol awareness, internet safety, and the important work of the Bomb Squad and K-9 Unit. They also enjoyed a fun dodgeball tournament, toured West Point, challenged themselves in fitness competitions, visited the Statue of Liberty and the Intrepid Museum, and wrapped up the week by learning lifesaving CPR and Stop the Bleed skills with Hackensack Meridian Health.

Thank you to all of our instructors, guest presenters, and community partners who helped make this year’s Junior Police Academy a tremendous success. We hope our cadets had as much fun as we had spending the week with them!
