📚🐾 BANNED BOOKS WEEK: WENDELL HAS SOMETHING TO SAY! 🐾📚
Meet Wendell, a four-month-old polydactyl kitten with an impressive literary pedigree!
Those extra toes make Wendell a Hemingway cat—named for the famous six-toed cats associated with Ernest Hemingway. And what better book for our little Hemingway than A Farewell to Arms?
Published in 1929, Hemingway’s classic was banned or challenged in several places over the years. It was banned in Boston when it appeared in Scribner’s Magazine, banned in Italy for its portrayal of the Italian retreat at Caporetto, burned by the N***s in 1933, banned in Ireland, and later challenged in American schools.
So while Wendell may have extra toes, we believe he has exactly the right number of opinions about freedom to read.
This Banned Books Week, we're celebrating the books that challenged conventions, sparked conversations, and—sometimes—made somebody uncomfortable enough to try to keep them off the shelves.
Fortunately, Wendell isn't having it. 🐾📖
