Wednesday Night’s Structure Fire

At approximately 11:34 PM Wednesday night, fire departments in the southern end of Oconee County were dispatched for a reported structure fire. While units were en route, additional information was received indicating that the fire involved multiple structures, increasing the need for additional resources and a coordinated response.

Upon arrival, personnel immediately went to work. Crews were assigned to fire attack and suppression operations, while other personnel established a fill site to support a water shuttle operation and provide a continuous water supply to the fire attack crews.

This past weekend, our members participated in a multi-department water shuttle training exercise, practicing the exact operations that were put into action last night. What we trained for just days ago was put to the test on a real incident, demonstrating the importance of preparation, teamwork, and interagency cooperation.

A successful response takes more than one department. It takes dedicated personnel working together toward the same goal.

We would like to extend a huge thank-you to everyone who responded, assisted with fire attack, operated at the fill site, drove tankers, provided support, and helped make the operation successful. We are proud to work alongside the departments and personnel who answered the call when our community needed them.

Train hard. Work together. Be ready when the call comes. 🚒🔥

This weekend, our department hosted a multi-department training focused on water shuttle operations and the importance of establishing an efficient water supply during incidents in areas where hydrants may not be readily available.

Neighboring departments, including Oakway, Crossroads, Double Springs, Townville, and members of Cleveland and Seneca City Fire, came together to train on establishing multiple drafting/fill sites. Tankers operated between the fill sites and the dump site, where water was transferred into a dump tank. The attack engine then drafted from the dump tank to supply water to the attack lines, demonstrating how a coordinated water shuttle can provide a continuous flow of water to the fire.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and participated! We had a great time training together, sharing knowledge, and strengthening the relationships between our neighboring departments.

Train together. Work together. Serve together.

Last night we had the pleasure of welcoming members of Life Flight (James, Amy Jo, Jen, and Rod and his partner in crime Mollie) and Prisma Health EMS (Michael and Leah) for a refresher training focused on landing zone operations and the safe transfer of patients from the ambulance to the helicopter.

A tremendous amount of valuable information was shared between all of the agencies, helping ensure that we are prepared to conduct each landing as safely, smoothly, and efficiently as possible.

We would like to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone from Life Flight and Prisma Health EMS for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit with us, share their knowledge, and continue strengthening the partnership between our agencies.

Thank you for helping us provide the safest and highest level of care possible to our community!
