💗 THE GOLDEN HEART CITY LIVING UP TO ITS NAME! 💗
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and here at Interior Gas Utility, we want to take a moment to recognize two incredible organizations that remind us what makes our community so special.
For 50 years, the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska (BCDC) has been making a difference in the lives of Alaskans. Founded right here in Fairbanks in 1976, this remarkable nonprofit has dedicated itself to making lifesaving breast cancer screenings accessible to Alaskans, regardless of their income or where they live.
From its Fairbanks clinic to its mobile mammography program traveling across Alaska to reach underserved communities, BCDC does work that truly matters. The kind of work that touches families, changes lives, and makes our entire state a better place.
But providing that level of care comes with expenses, and for a nonprofit, every dollar matters. Especially here in Interior Alaska, where keeping a building warm through our long winters is no small expense.
That's where Darren Webster and his team at Webster's Mechanical stepped up in a BIG way!
When the opportunity arose to convert BCDC's Fairbanks facility from heating oil to natural gas, Webster's Mechanical answered the call, generously donating their time, expertise, labor, and materials to help make that transition possible.
And this was no small undertaking!
Their team removed the existing oil-fired boiler, ran new natural gas piping through the building, and upgraded the facility's hydronic heating system from a conventional setup to an injection system.
This was a significant investment of time, resources, and skilled labor, all donated to help an organization that has spent decades helping others.
Think about that for a moment.
A local business chose to invest its own time and resources into helping another local organization continue doing what it does best: taking care of people.
By helping BCDC make the switch to natural gas, Webster's Mechanical didn't just help with a heating system. They helped create an opportunity for lower operating costs with more stability, allowing more of BCDC's resources to stay focused on the mission that matters most.
Early detection. Access to care. And helping save lives.
At Interior Gas Utility, we're incredibly proud that natural gas can play a role in making essential services more affordable and reliable for the organizations that serve our community. But today, the spotlight belongs to Webster's Mechanical and the incredible team at BCDC.
This is what the Golden Heart City is all about. Neighbors helping neighbors. Local businesses lifting up local nonprofits. People recognizing a need and choosing to do something about it.
To everyone at Webster's Mechanical: THANK YOU! Thank you for your generosity, your commitment to this community, and for demonstrating that making a difference doesn't always require writing a check. Sometimes it means showing up, rolling up your sleeves, and putting your skills to work for a cause bigger than yourself.
And to the amazing team at BCDC, thank you for the extraordinary work you do for Alaskans every single day.
Also, we'd be remiss if we didn't take a moment to recognize one more truly incredible milestone!
Traditionally, a 50th anniversary is celebrated in gold. But this October, in the Golden Heart City, we think it's only fitting to add a little PINK!
💛🎉💗 HAPPY 50TH ANNIVERSARY, BCDC! 💗🎉💛
For half a century, you've been making a difference in the lives of Alaskans, and we're honored to play even a small part in supporting your mission. Here's to 50 years of compassion, dedication, and lifesaving care, and to many more years ahead!
Because the Golden Heart City isn't just a nickname. It's who we are.
