We have no lack of natural resources in the great State of Alaska. The question is, we will utilize them to profit Alaska or will we let them just sit there and go to waste?

I for one will continue to do my constitutional duty and vote to develop and utilize them for the maximum benefits of all Alaskans.

⚠️ We are currently at EEA Level 1: Be Aware

Two of GVEA’s generation units are currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. This maintenance is driven by operating hours on the units, rather than the time of the year. At the same time, there is a scheduled outage on one of the Railbelt ties, temporarily preventing our ability to receive hydropower, a situation expected to continue through next week.

With available generation reserves reduced, we’re asking members to conserve electricity where practical to help manage limited power supplies.

Our teams are working hard to complete maintenance and return our units to service as quickly as possible. Thank you for doing your part to help during this time.

⚠️ Visit the EEA Webpage

Go to GVEA's website where you can learn more about the alert levels, find your controlled load shed zone, review conservation and preparation tips, and check the current energy status.

It’s National Coal Week, and we’re celebrating a resource that has shaped Alaska’s history and still powers our communities today!

For more than a century, coal mining has supported Alaska’s railroad, industries, military installations, and growing communities. Today, that story continues. In Healy, Usibelli Coal Mine has been producing locally sourced coal since 1943, helping provide reliable, affordable electricity and heat for Interior Alaska’s homes, businesses, schools, and military installations.

Beyond energy, coal supports hundreds of jobs, local businesses, and families throughout our region. This week, we’re celebrating the hardworking Alaskans behind the industry, and the important role Usibelli Coal Mine continues to play in our energy security and economy.
