Fairbanks Rescue Mission A temporary emergency shelter dedicated to providing safe shelter, food and clothing to those in need. Our mission is long term transformation and stability.

The Fairbanks Rescue Mission serves men, women, and children from the Fairbanks North Star Borough community and the outlying rural areas. The Mission operates the only overnight men's and women's emergency shelter in Interior Alaska. Emergency services includes three hot meals, a bed each night, clothing, and a safe environment. We are dedicated to helping people get back on their feet. With prayer, cooperation and our relationship with other local programs, we strive to make that happen for everyone who walks through our door. Lives are changed at the Fairbanks Rescue Mission every day. These are men and women just like you and I, with families and children like ours. Somewhere, somehow, hard times came and they are in need of a helping hand. With your support, we are lowering the number of homeless individuals in Fairbanks each year. More than that...we are changing lives. Will you join us in our cause? https://www.fairbanksrescuemission.org/ways-to-give

In Fairbanks, Alaska, winter temperatures can become dangerous… Tanya Steele needs your support for Help Replace 60 Mattresses at The Fairbanks Rescue Mission

10/14/2026

In Fairbanks, homelessness changes when winter arrives.

At -20°F or -40°F, simply being outside becomes something you have to actively survive.
Where can I get warm?
How long will it take me to get there?
Will they let me stay?
What happens if I miss the bus?
Are my socks wet?
Can I feel my toes?

The cold begins dictating your entire day.

A mile that means almost nothing from inside a heated car can become a serious journey when you are walking it with everything you own. A lost glove, wet boots, a building being unexpectedly closed, even just ten extra minutes outside can matter.

Even having a place to sleep at night does not solve the entire problem. There are still hours of the day to get through. There are meals to find, clothes to dry, medications and documents to protect, laundry to wash, and someplace warm enough to simply sit down.

And winter can force desperate choices.

People may stay with someone unsafe because it is warmer than outside. And why wouldn't they?
They may sleep in a vehicle that barely runs, an abandoned building, an overcrowded apartment, or somewhere heated by equipment that was never meant to keep people alive.

The cold also makes it difficult to think beyond today.

It is hard to concentrate on replacing an ID, finding employment, making appointments, repairing credit, searching for housing, or rebuilding your life when your immediate thoughts are:
Where am I going next?
Where can I get warm?
Where am I sleeping tonight?

This is why the ordinary things provided at the Fairbanks Rescue Mission matter so much. A warm bed. A shower. Dry clothing. A pair of socks. Three meals. A safe place to be.

They may sound like small things but at 40 below, they arelife and death.
They create the breathing room a person needs to stop surviving the next few hours and begin thinking about what comes next.

This winter, your support helps keep that door open.

The Fairbanks Rescue Mission is currently in need of cribs for families staying at the Mission.

If you have a crib you would like to donate, we ask that it be clean, sturdy, complete, and in good usable condition. Because these cribs will be used in a residential facility, we cannot accept cribs that are unsafe for continued use or at the end of it's life.

Thank you for helping us provide a safe and welcoming Mission.

After five years of service, we are saying goodbye to Perri Kelly as she finishes her time with Fairbanks Rescue Mission.

Her official title was Development Officer, but she was way more than that. During a season when the Mission was going through a lot of transition, she helped keep things moving. She worked in development, assisting with administration, helping in finance, supporting volunteer coordination, and filling important gaps while new staff were hired and trained.

Perri is incredibly organized, dependable, and always willing to jump into whatever needs to be done. A lot of her work happened quietly behind the scenes, but it made a real difference and helped provide stability during some important years for the Mission.

We are very grateful for the time, energy, and care Perri gave to Fairbanks Rescue Mission over these past five years. She has been an important part of our team, and she will be missed.

What is the Enterprise Program?
By Devin Kelly
For someone trying to move out of homelessness, getting a job is not always as simple as filling out an application.
Employers want to see recent work history. They need to know that a person can show up on time, work with others, take direction, and finish what they start. They want the last few years accounted for, a supervisor to call, dates that line up. These are often questions a person coming out of homelessness or prison cannot answer. That blank spot on the page is the last thing standing between the “reject pile” or the “further consideration” pile.

The Enterprise Program was built to address that gap.

Enterprise is a vocational work rehabilitation program and job training program at the Fairbanks Rescue Mission. Each summer we select a small group of crew members from amongst our clientele, hire them as Mission employees, pay them an hourly wage, and put them to work together as a crew while we house and feed them.
We want each crew member to leave with recent employment on record, a work reference who will pick up the phone, new skills, and the confidence that comes from having done productive work in the service of a good cause.

Since Enterprise began in 2022, our crews have worked around Fairbanks for the State of Alaska, the City of Fairbanks, the Bill Stroecker Foundation, Fairbanks Neighborhood Housing and others. We have cleaned public spaces, performed building maintenance, helped clear nuisance properties, and done beautification work.

Whenever we find a chance to teach, we take it. Renaldo Duncanson, our maintenance supervisor, uses the Mission building itself as a training ground for light carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. Crew members also attend soft-skills classes with our Director Tommy Razani.

But our purpose goes deeper than employment.

The gospel is at the center of everything we do. Pastor Keanan of Shannon Park Baptist Church teaches gospel classes for the crew, because we believe lasting hope is found in Jesus Christ. A steady job can change a person's circumstances. Our prayer is that the gospel changes far more.

For more than fifty years, the Fairbanks Rescue Mission has been a place people come when they need a new beginning. Enterprise is one of the ways we try to help that beginning last.
If you are interested in supporting the Fairbanks Rescue Mission or the Enterprise program please visit us at fairbanksrescuemission.org to donate.

This is where hope begins.
