Fairborn Digital Academy

10/19/2026

Every summer, Dirk Webb heads to Montana to fight wildfires. During the school year, he’s at Fairborn Digital Academy, getting to know his students and figuring out what spark each one needs to keep going.

“Every student is different, some need you to push. Some need you to step back. You have to figure out what works for each individual person.”

The moments he loves most come when students begin to see what they’re really capable of!

🎉 FIVE YEARS IN A ROW! 🎉

For the fifth consecutive year, Fairborn Digital Academy has earned an overall Exceeds Standards rating on Ohio’s Dropout Prevention and Recovery Report Card! 💙🎓

And there is even more to celebrate. FDA earned Exceeds Standards ratings in Achievement and Gap Closing, as well as in both our seven-year and eight-year graduation measures.

We know that not every student’s journey through high school looks the same. Some of our students come to FDA behind on credits. Some need more flexibility. Others simply need a different learning environment and people who will take the time to understand what works for them.

That is why these results mean so much to us.

Every rating represents students who kept going, accountability coaches and staff who kept showing up, and another year of proving that a different approach to high school can work.

We are incredibly proud of our students and the entire FDA team. 💙

Some teachers bring lessons to life. Mitchell Waterman brings a lifetime of stories with him.

Spend a few minutes with Mitchell and you may hear about a moment in the civil rights movement, a legendary athlete, a concert, or a piece of history his students have only read about.

“Most of that history they read about, I was there for that,” Mitchell said. “I can talk, and the kids like that.”

But the stories are never really about Mitchell. They are one more way he helps students see that their own lives matter, too. That history is made by people, and they are still writing their part of it.

“The only thing that’s important to me is my family and my students.”

Read more about Mitchell, the extraordinary stories he carries with him, and why helping students believe in their own potential has mattered to him for a lifetime:

Eric Wright cares enough to tell students the truth and keep showing up, even when they push back.

For nearly 16 years, Eric has been a steady presence at Fairborn Digital Academy. As an accountability coach, enrollment coordinator, math tutor, photographer, and mentor, he helps students understand what success will require and reminds them that a second chance is still theirs to claim.

“I was one of them,” Eric said. “I had a rough family life, and I can relate. I’ve been there.”

Students quickly learn that Eric’s high expectations come from a deeply personal understanding of what they may be facing. He knows they have to do the work themselves, but he refuses to stop believing they can.
