Purple Heart Day is observed annually on August 7 and is a day to honor our nation’s Purple Heart recipients. The order of the Purple Heart for Military Merit is the oldest military honor in the world in present use. The first award made available to a common soldier, it is awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who are killed or wounded in combat. The freedom we enjoy today is a direct result of the Purple Heart recipients who put their lives on the line for our country, and Nebraska is proud to honor our Purple Heart recipients. You can read Governor Jim Pillen's Purple Heart Day proclamation below.

It was brought to my attention that there is a way to get a POSSIBLE extension on the DMV tax exemption. If you are not able to renew your license plate on the month that it is due, you can call the local County Treasurer ( NOT the County Veterans Office) and talk with them. This MUST be done the month the plates are due. Then the DMV help desk in Lincoln MAY grant a waiver when you do go in to renew your plates.
This will NOT work if you are going to be more than 1 week overdue when you renew your plates.

This is NOT a guaranteed extension. Just a POSSIBLITY of getting one.

The office will be closed the first week of September for training.
All transports will made as normal. I will work remotely from the training. Please call and leave a voicemail.

This is a great idea and chance to realize you are NOT alone. Others do understand what you are going through.
