We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Wayne County Sheriff Jerry Joslin, who served as Sheriff from 1994 to 2002.

We are grateful for his many years of dedicated service to the citizens of Wayne County. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Rest in peace Sheriff Joslin.

I’m proud to announce that the Wayne County Jail has once again achieved 100% compliance during its annual inspection conducted by the Illinois Department of Corrections’ Jail and Detention Standards Unit.

This accomplishment reflects the professionalism, dedication and hard work of our entire team. Thank you to Sergeant Miller and Sergeant Toombs for your continued leadership and to all of our Correctional Officers for your commitment to maintaining high standards and serving the citizens of Wayne County.

*Update*

County Highway 16 is now open.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a multi vehicle traffic crash at 615 County Highway 16. The roadway in this area has been shut down until further notice while emergency personnel investigate the crash and clear the scene. Motorists are asked to please avoid the area and use an alternate route until the roadway is reopened.

🚨 Public Service Announcement 🚨

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has received several reports from family members and friends of individuals in our custody who have received phone calls claiming their loved one can be released in exchange for money.

THIS IS A SCAM!

Illinois eliminated traditional cash bail statewide in September of 2023. Furthermore, employees of the Wayne County Jail will never contact family or friends to request money or payment to secure an individual's release.

Our office is currently investigating these complaints, and we encourage anyone who receives a call of this nature to not send money or provide personal/financial information and to report the call to us.

Please share this post to help protect others from becoming a victim of this scam.

Today we honor the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks and remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost.

We especially remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to serve.

We would like to make the public aware that Wayne City Schools were on a soft lockdown this morning (8/27/26) as a precautionary measure. The lockdown was triggered due to a call The Wayne County Sheriff's Office was responding to in Wayne City. Deputies were able to arrive and determine there was no danger and the school was notified and lifted the lockdown.

After following up on multiple tips, Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies located and arrested Cody L. Massie on a Wayne County Warrant for Escape. In addition, Massie has new charges for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. Thank you to those who provided tips in regard to this subject.
