A study has found that teenagers who use cannabis may be more likely to develop serious psychiatric conditions by young adulthood.

Cannabis remains the most used illicit drug among adolescents in the United States. Cannabis products have become much stronger, and the THC levels in California cannabis flowers now exceed 20%, whereas some cannabis concentrates can contain more than 95% THC.

Dr. Kelly Young-Wolff, Ph. D., stated that ‘even after accounting for prior mental health conditions and other substance use, adolescents who reported cannabis use had a substantially higher risk of developing psychiatric disorders, such as psychotic and bipolar disorders.”

This study raises the concern that the continued commercialization of cannabis could worsen existing disparities in mental health outcomes for young adults.

Every year, World Heart Day on September 29 strives to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease, including how to prevent it.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 18 million people die each year from heart-related issues. About 85% of these deaths are due to heart attacks and stroke.

Heart attacks and strokes are caused by blockages that prevent blood from flowing to the brain or heart. One of the most common types of obstruction is fatty deposits in the blood vessels. The following risk factors increase the chance of having a heart attack or stroke:
 To***co use
 Unhealthy diet
 Obesity
 Physical inactivity
 Hypertension
 Harmful use of alcohol

In many cases, a combination of these risk factors is present in stroke and heart attack victims.

What can you do to participate:
 Wear red
 Take good care of your heart by exercising and eating healthy foods
 Don’t smoke
 Get a free heart health check, if possible
