After days of laborious counts and recounts, we can officially announce the results of the 'Name Our Donkey' election at the 2026 Democracy Dinner! 'Franklin' and 'Jack' received 10 votes each, beating out Eleanor, Jackie, and Carter.

Rather than arrange a run-off election, we have decided on a unity ticket - his name is officially 'Franklin Jack'. Our thanks to everyone who attended the dinner and participated!

Wow. Just wow.

The solution to the affordability crisis—fuel, utilities, groceries, childcare, and housing—is to ‘live within your means.’

Daycare costs about ~$700 per month depending on your child’s age and potty training status while the average mortgage is West Virginia is between $1,445 to $1,543.

What a non-answer.

‘Minimum wage here is above the national.” That’s right, if you have more than 6 employees it’s $8.75, less, it falls back in line at $7.25. Tipped workers, we’re looking at $2.62. Meanwhile 1 in 5 live in poverty, but we’re getting a credit for personal property taxes so…remind me, how much is a pound of beef right now?

‘There’s lots of jobs on the avenue that pay $17 dollars an hour but no one wants to work.’

‘Speeding is the reason our roads are so dangerous’—I’ll take that for the interstates and agree with taking personal accountability, but what about the secondary roads?

‘Well, it’s hard to get anyone to come to work, and when they do, they don’t know have to run the equipment’ to fix the roads.

‘We’ve dealt with PEIA since dirt.

And??

Did ‘we have 27 counties where more people showed up to vote than were registered in the last election’ or did we have an ‘11% turnout.’

Official Secretary of State count was 21.02% in West Virginia.

The math ain’t math’in.

I gotta say, this candidate forum is not disappointing, it’s eye opening.
It was easy to spot the candidates who came to talk with us and not at us.

With a little more than twenty days, I encourage you to take the time to hear our candidates answer questions like these and to ask your own.

I’ll post a link to Marion County’s House of Delegates for Districts 74, 75, & 76 candidate forum here when it becomes available.

Senate Candidates in Districts 2 & 13 are next Sunday. Please add links to forums in your local districts!

Here’s a picture of a beautiful tree, mostly because I need to touch grass after that.

We. Deserve. Better.
Vote him out.

October 13 is the last day to register to vote in West Virginia's General Election.

Who makes the decisions in our communities?

How will our public schools be funded?
What will it cost to live, work, and raise a family in West Virginia?

Elections can be decided by just a handful of votes. Sometimes, even one.
Your community. Your future. Your vote.

Already registered? Check your status.
Not registered? October 13 is your deadline.
