❄️ COLD WEATHER SAFETY TIPS FOR SENIORS ❄️
As temperatures drop, our seniors should take extra precautions to stay warm, healthy, and safe throughout fall and winter! ❤️
Here are a few important reminders:
🧥 Dress in Layers: Wear warm clothing, hats, gloves, scarves, and shoes with good traction when going outside.
🏠 Keep Your Home Warm: Aim to keep your home at least 68°F, if possible. Never use your oven, charcoal grill, or outdoor heater to heat your home.
🔥 Check Your Heating System: Make sure your furnace is working properly and your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning.
🧊 Prevent Falls: Watch for icy sidewalks, steps, and driveways. Use handrails and avoid going outside when conditions are dangerous.
⚡ Prepare for Power Outages: Keep flashlights, batteries, blankets, bottled water, food, medications, and a charged cell phone on hand. Never operate a generator indoors or in a garage.
🥣 Eat Well & Stay Hydrated: Keep nutritious food and plenty of supplies available in case bad weather prevents you from leaving home.
❤️ Check on One Another: If you have an older family member, friend, or neighbor who lives alone, check in regularly during cold weather and winter storms.
🐾 Don't Forget Your Pets! Make sure they have warm shelter, food, water, and any necessary medications.
🚨 KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS: Confusion, unusual drowsiness, slurred speech, and severe shivering may be signs of hypothermia. Call 911 if you suspect a medical emergency.
