Public Safety Alert: Phone Scam Warning
The Fairview Park Police Department wants to make residents aware of a possible phone scam involving caller ID spoofing. Scammers can manipulate caller ID to make it appear that a call is coming from a legitimate phone number, including a local police department.
The Fairview Park Police Department will never call you to demand money, gift cards, Bitcoin, or wire transfers to clear a warrant or avoid arrest, nor will we solicit donations in this manner.
If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be law enforcement and demanding money or personal information, hang up immediately. Do not call back the number displayed on your caller ID or use a phone number provided in a text message. Instead, independently look up the department’s official phone number and contact us directly to verify the call.
If you believe you have been targeted by a scam or have lost money as a result, please contact your local police department to report it.
At this time, we have not received any reports of financial losses related to this scam. We are sharing this information as a precaution so residents can recognize suspicious calls and take steps to protect themselves.
