Teamwork makes the dream work!
While returning from the fire along US-412 near Bouse Junction, our tanker experienced an air supply failure to the rear brakes. The wheels continued to spin, but the rear brakes were actively applying and attempting to stop the truck. Unfortunately, the truck was climbing a hill when the failure occurred, and the firefighter attributed the drag to the incline. After making it up the hill it was apparent there was an issue with the tanker, and the firefighter pulled over at the next intersection. The brakes were obviously very hot by this point and smoking tremendously. Thankfully, there was no resulting fire to the system components, but the truck was out of service and still 10+ miles from home.
A quick call to District 1 Commissioner Ryan Greb resulted in a semi and trailer headed our way in no time. Ryan and his employee Matt, who also happens to be a Meno firefighter, were able to help get the brakes backed off and the truck loaded and hauled back to our station for repairs. Without their expertise and skill we were stuck. Ryan was already at another fire incident on 412 after providing an excavator to assist in spreading burning hay bales and didn’t hesitate to assist us as well.
We’re always grateful for the assistance our County Commissioners provide! District 3 had already provided us with graders and operators to assist on our fire scene, so in all they helped assist us three separate ways in just a few hours. Whether it be heavy equipment, additional water resources, or a tow home, our Commissioners always provide.
Thank you all!
