Chautauqua County Parks & Trails Chautauqua County’s Parks & Trails provide stunning access to 154 acres of parks, 43 miles of overland trail, and 53 miles of waterway trail in WNY.

Chautauqua County’s Parks & Trails provide residents and visitors with access to some of the most stunning views and enjoyable wildlife areas available in western New York. Our 154 acres of overlook and millrace parks, 43 miles of overland trail, and 53 miles of waterway trail include areas equipped with picnic pavilions, restrooms, parking areas, overnight camping, and canoe and kayak access points. The Airport Division and the Parks Division are both managed by the Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities. The main office for Airports & Parks is located at the Chautauqua County/Jamestown Airport, 3163 Airport Drive, Jamestown, NY, 14701, phone number 716-484-0204.

Third Saturday Co-Sponsored Hike: Boutwell Hill Saturday, October 17, 2026 • 9:30 AM

Hello Everyone,

For the October 17th co-sponsored hike we will be hiking at Boutwell Hill State Forest on Ruttenbur Rd, Cherry Creek. This trail is part of the Eastside Overland Trail. A lot of trail maintenance has recently been done. It will be an in and out hike. Total distance is about 4 miles. There will be an option about half way for people to turn back if they want a shorter version. Bring water, and poles if you like to use them. The first section is pretty easy, the second half will have a bit more hilly terrain. Everyone is welcome to join us. Angelika will the leader for this outing. Here’s a link for the location.

ATTENTION: This sign means just what it says…..not only NO ATV’s, but no motorized vehicles on the Overland Trails are permitted, and per local law, that’s been the case for the last 46 years. There has been a noticed uptick in off road vehicle use on both Overland Trails lately. Please be respectful and obey the rules and signage. This will ensure well kept trail conditions for users. If you see unauthorized motor vehicles on the Overland Trails, the equestrian, mountain bike, Rails to Trails, or cross country ski trails, let us, DEC, or state forest rangers know!

Chautauqua County has had a lot of success in recent years in getting grant funds to help improve trails. Those grant-funded improvements are paying off as more people are making their way onto the county's trail system.
