Storytime Tomorrow & Library Update!

Join us for Storytime tomorrow in our temporary children’s area inside the library! Storytime will be a little simpler than usual for now — a book and a snack — but it’s still a wonderful opportunity to stop in, enjoy a story, and connect with other local families. We’d love to see you there!

A little more library access is coming! 🎉

We’re excited to begin opening up the front portion of the library for families and patrons to use while reconstruction continues. Here’s what you can look forward to:

- A temporary children’s area in Meeting Room A, with children’s books available to browse and check out.

- Three public computers available for use.

- Printing services available.

- New adult fiction and nonfiction books on display and ready to check out!

We know this isn’t the library experience we had hoped for, but with reconstruction expected to take another month or so, we want to do everything we can to keep serving our community in the meantime.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work through this unexpected setback. We miss having everyone in our full space, and we’re doing our best to make the most of this in-between season. ❤️

PLEASE READ: Safe Ways to Get to the New Fall Creek Public Library & Village Center

As more families begin visiting the new Fall Creek Public Library and Village Center, we want to take a moment to call attention to the safest ways to walk or bike to the new facility.

If you are a parent of a child who will be walking or biking to the library, please take a few minutes to read and talk through this with your child. ❤️

Our village has two pedestrian flashing LED crosswalks on Highway 12. These are highlighted on the map, and pictured. These are the preferred and safest places to cross Highway 12:

📍 Near Fall Mart and Chicken Chasers
📍 Near Memorial Park

There are also crosswalks at Liberty Street, State Street, and White Street.

Please note: Crossing Highway 12 at Victory Street is not advised.
Please do not cross Highway 12 anywhere there is not a designated crosswalk. Crossing outside of a crosswalk is both illegal and unsafe.

A few important reminders for everyone:

• Look both ways before crossing.
• Make sure traffic in both directions has actually stopped before entering the crosswalk.
• Do not assume drivers see you or will stop. Make eye contact with drivers when possible and wait until you are certain it is safe to cross.
• If you're biking, slow down and be especially cautious when approaching a crosswalk.

We want our children, families, and everyone in our community to be able to enjoy all of the wonderful spaces our village has to offer — safely.

Taking a few extra moments to use the designated crosswalks, watch for traffic, and make sure vehicles have stopped can make a big difference.

It’s a sunny Tuesday, so we’re focusing on the positive! ☀️

This unexpected setback has certainly been tough, but there are still SO many good things happening at the library:

1. The books are packed!
All of the books that needed to be packed up before demolition are officially packed. That was no small task, but it’s DONE—and we can move forward!

2. New books arrived!
It’s always a good day for a librarian when new materials show up. There’s just something about opening boxes of brand-new books! ❤️

3. Our contractors have been amazing.
Every contractor we’ve worked with has gone above and beyond for us. We truly feel well cared for throughout this process, and we’re incredibly grateful.

4. We’re making the most of this downtime.
While we wait to fully reopen, we’re using this time to work on even MORE amazing features for the library. Hint, hint… 👀 LEGO wall, local art nook, a fully stocked makerspace, and so much more! We can’t wait for you to see what’s coming.

5. We ended September on a high note!
Despite everything that happened, we still had 1,589 items checked out and 35 new library cards in September! That is something worth celebrating. 🎉

There have definitely been some bumps in the road, but there is still SO much to look forward to. We’re keeping our eyes on the future and making the most of this unexpected downtime.

Even while we’re operating at a limited capacity, you can still access all of the amazing materials available through the MORE Libraries system. If you’ve been meaning to read a book, now is the perfect time to put it on hold.

It was a sad moment for our staff as we found ourselves packing up books once again. After just two wonderful weeks in our new library, we never imagined we would be facing another change so soon.

Unfortunately, the water damage affected several components of the building, and it will take some time to get everything repaired and back to the shiny and beautiful library we were so excited to share with our community.

For now, we are hoping to reopen tomorrow, September 29, for hold pick-ups only. We will remain at this limited capacity while we learn more about the full extent of the damage and what steps will be needed to get everything back to normal. Once we have a better understanding of the repairs, we are hopeful that we can begin offering some library services at a smaller capacity.

We will also be canceling Story Time for the next two weeks. We know how much our little library friends look forward to Wednesdays, and we are just as disappointed to miss them. ❤️

This isn't the update any of us wanted to share. We are sad. We are frustrated. But we are also hopeful.

We have already seen just how much this community cares about its library, and we truly believe that Fall Creek will come together to help us get through this unexpected setback. We’ve built this library together, and we know that together, we’ll get through this, too. 💙

Thank you for your patience, understanding, encouragement, and support as we work through this. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more.

We’ve had an amazing first two weeks at the new library! We can truly see how excited and eager our community is to explore everything the new library has to offer—from the materials and technology to all of our new services and spaces.

We’ve been bursting with joy… unfortunately, a pipe decided to burst, too.

A pipe burst overnight, something we certainly couldn’t have seen coming. We’re working through it and know we’ll get everything back in order. For now, we will be closed while we take care of the situation.

We’ll keep you updated as we know more. Thank you for your patience and understanding—and thank you for making these first two weeks so incredible! ❤️

We are absolutely overjoyed by the response to our first week in the new Fall Creek Public Library & Village Center!

📖 Nearly 1,000 items checked out
💛 Generous donations from our community

And countless visitors blown away by Fall Creek’s beautiful new library and village center!

We have been so excited to welcome familiar faces, meet new friends, and watch our community discover all that this space has to offer.
