Fall River Fire Department Battles Third-Alarm Fire at the Corner of South Main and
Rodman Streets Fall River, MA, September 24, 2026

On September 23, 2026, at approximately 10:07 PM, the Fall River Fire Department
was dispatched to a building fire at 26 Rodman Street.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing at the rear of 318 South Main Street, a
three-story building. Given the size and intensity of the fire, it was raised to a third
alarm at 10:37 PM , and at one point, every piece of fire apparatus in the city was
committed to the scene. At approximately 1:39 AM the fire was under control. First
due crews were still on scene until approximately 12:30 PM looking for hidden fire. As
of 3:30 PM, a couple crews were still on scene chasing hot spots and preventing
rekindle awaiting cranes to tear down the building.

In total, three buildings were involved in the fire: 308 South Main Street, 298 South
Main Street, and 26 Rodman Street. The fire gutted the building at 308 South Main
Street and spread to the upper floors of the two adjacent buildings, burning through
their roofs. Sections of the exterior wall at the rear of both South Main Street buildings
also collapsed.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the incident and was not transported
for treatment.

One resident of the Rodman Street building was displaced as a result of the fire.
Fall River Police, Fall River EMS, and Special Services also responded to assist.
The Fall River Fire Department thanks the Westport, Tiverton, Swansea, and Freetown
Fire Departments for their mutual aid, which helped cover Fall River fire stations during
the incident.

The Fall River Fire Department also recognizes its Fire Alarm dispatchers, who received
the initial call and coordinated the department’s response throughout the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation
