It’s National School Bus Safety Week! πŸ’›πŸšŒ

This week is National School Bus Safety Week, so each day we will be highlighting a different safety focus. 🚌

Today's focus is remembering to πŸ›‘ STOP πŸ›‘ for school buses anytime their red lights flash. In the State of Nevada, motorists in ALL lanes must stop for school buses, unless there is a physical median (there are no bus stops in Churchill County with a median).

We are less than two months into the school year and have already had more than 30 incidents of vehicles passing our school buses while stopped with lights flashing. PLEASE slow down, pay attention, eliminate distractions, and keep our community's students safe.

Superintendent Blake Cooper added a new skill to his resume Wednesday evening! πŸ˜„

While attending our Title VI Indian Education Tribal Consultation and Parent Advisory Committee meetings at the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Community Learning Center, Blake got a hands-on lesson in making fry bread from our Title VI Liaison & SIT Coordinator, Tish Yellowhawk!

A little flour, a little patience, and some expert guidance from Tish made for a pretty fun learning experience! πŸ™Œ

Thank you, Tish, for sharing your knowledge and putting our superintendent to work! πŸ’š

On Tuesday, ChurchillCSD Superintendent Blake Cooper had the opportunity to speak with the Fallon Rotary Club, joined by Board Trustee Celestia Blakey, to share the district’s vision, the work happening in our schools, and the many ways our community can help create opportunities for students.

A major focus of the presentation was community involvement and the important role local organizations, businesses, and individuals play in supporting education. From volunteering in classrooms and reading with students to sharing career experiences and providing work-based learning opportunities, there are so many ways our community can connect with and support our schools.

The conversation also highlighted the importance of building strong partnerships that help students explore their interests, discover new possibilities, and prepare for their futures.

Thank you to the Fallon Rotary Club for welcoming Superintendent Cooper and Trustee Blakey and for your continued commitment to the students and families of Churchill County! πŸ’š

Learning and growing together! πŸ’š

While students had the day off today, ChurchillCSD staff spent the day learning, collaborating, and working together through professional development.

Just as we ask our students to continue learning and growing, it is important that we create those same opportunities for our staff. Across the district, professional development looked a little different at each school based on the needs of their students and staff.

Teams dug into the Science of Reading, i-Ready, math routines and reasoning, PLCs, data-driven instruction, PBIS and universal screeners, executive functioning, parent engagement, student learning goals, department planning, and more. Staff had dedicated time to analyze data, strengthen instructional practices, learn new strategies and resources, and collaborate and plan with their teams.

Days like today are an important part of what it means to be One Team. When our staff have time to learn from one another, share ideas, and grow together, that work carries back into our classrooms and helps us continue finding ways to best serve our students.

One Team. One Community. Endless Possibilities.
