155 out of 197 components in Russia’s deadly Kinzhal missile are American-made. According to a recent report, nearly 79% of the identified components in one of russia’s most advanced missiles come from the United States. Another 17 come from Japan, 10 from Switzerland, and 7 from Taiwan. Only ONE component is russian-made.

Russia is using Western technology to build missiles that destroy Ukrainian cities, infrastructure, and homes, killing innocent civilians. Despite years of sanctions, russia continues to obtain these components through supply chains that circumvent restrictions. If the West is serious about stopping russia’s war machine, it must stop the flow of technology that keeps that machine running.

RAM: On Sunday, the Philadelphia Inquirer published our friend Trudy Rubin’s latest column – an excellent firsthand report on the war and the impact Washington’s nearly incomprehensible behavior is having.

I highly recommend you read Trudy’s entire report while I here emphasize a quote below from a Ukrainian soldier that so captures the embarrassing and indefensible American position: “Putin can conduct massive attacks that specifically target civilians without any criticism from Trump, while Ukraine plays by international rules yet draws Trump’s derision.”

Intimidated NATO must step up. Ian Brzezinski, a member of the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation’s Friends of Ukraine Network (FOUN), has sent the following Dispatch from Moldova.
You may have seen it elsewhere, but if not, as always, Ian is thoughtful, and what he has to say is important.

RAM: ...President Trump said, “Zelenskyy could have settled this war many times, and he chose not to.”

Our President continued by accusing Zelenskyy of wanting “to make problems for the world. He wants to make problems for our farmers, our ranchers, with diesel fuel ….”

In what world does our President live? He continues to belligerently refuse to see facts – who started this war for no reason but savage aggression – who has consistently refused to negotiate ...

RAM: President Trump has invited the war criminal and dedicated enemy of the United States to the upcoming G20 meeting in Florida. One cannot find words to describe how outrageous such an invitation is, whether or not Putin attends. Instead of expressing outrage and supporting Ukraine in this war, our President invites Putin to Florida. Below I set out an open letter to our Administration stating that, at the very least, if Putin attends, there must be conditions. - https://mailchi.mp/usukraine/open_letter_to_us_administration_regarding_the_presidents_invitation_to_putin

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation supported Ganta Fund, a Latvian charitable foundation whose primary mission is delivering medical equipment to Ukrainian hospitals and providing medical evacuations in parts of the Donetsk region close to the front line, where the wounded must be transported to a medical facility to receive care. A $5,000 grant from USUF covered the delivery of a power generator, power banks, and medical items, as well as the cost of fuel and vehicle maintenance—a constant, never-ending expense for an organization carrying out about 4,000 medical evacuations per year.

Where is the urgency? Where are Ukraine’s supporters?

RAM: It seems to me there has been a letdown, a relaxation, a default to cruise control waiting for Presidential action. Wrong! Even if implemented as intended, the Graham sanctions can only contribute to a victory for Ukraine over Russia. There can be no pause.

This is no time to rest on laurels!
Urgent action is required
Congressional candidates must hear their constituents support Ukraine!

Today, Ukraine celebrates a special holiday, the Day of Defenders of Ukraine. Unlike the Day of Armed Forces of Ukraine, marked in December, the Day of Defenders is dedicated to the remembrance of not only men and women serving in the army but also of veterans, those who fought for Ukraine in the past, who died defending Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
This holiday was introduced by Presidential Decree of Petro Poroshenko in 2014 on October 14 to coincide with the Day of Ukrainian Cossacks, Day of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army – UPA - that fought for Ukrainian independence during the Second World War, and the Day of the Protection of the Mother of God, a protectress of Ukrainian Cossacks and the army in Ukrainian tradition. In 2023, as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church liturgical calendar in Ukraine synchronized with Greek Orthodoxy and religious holidays shifted two weeks earlier, as in most parts of the world, the state holiday of Defenders of Ukraine was moved accordingly to continue the tradition of honoring Cossacks and defenders on the day of the Virgin Mary, the Protectress.
Special thanks to Ukrainian Defenders and their families on this special day! Slava Ukraini!

Fear of Putin going fully rogue has paralyzed the West for long enough

RAM: The following opinion piece from The Economist has been brought to my attention (published August 27th). Its author, Radek Sikorski, is Poland’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister – and husband of Anne Applebaum.

I could not agree more; he describes the “neurosis” that has kept the much stronger West destructively deterred, while the much weaker but bellicose Putin, Russia’s war criminal-in-chief, finds growing weakness in the West.
