Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

25 years later we remember all those who lost their lives that day. We honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and we reflect on the strength and community shown in the days following.

The Fanwood Rescue Squad sent crews on two nights for 12 hour duty shifts. These crews were standing by at West Avenue and Chambers Street and were available to assist in anyway necessary. Pictured are First Lt. Jeff Downing, EMT Patti Keever, Sgt. Eileen Ochsner and EMT Mark Crawford.

This morning, at 12:09 am the Fanwood Rescue Squad was dispatched with Fanwood Fire Department for a reported smoke condition inside a residence. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and the incident was upgraded to a first-alarm structure fire.

The Fanwood Rescue Squad, alongside our mutual aid partners from Union County EMS and Special Operations, provided standby and rehabilitation services to firefighters operating on the scene for approximately 2 hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

As always, a big thank you to all responding agencies for their quick coordination and teamwork on scene.
