District 46 Representative Desiree Morton issued this statement regarding the results of the ND Development Fund independent audit.

The Legislative Audit and Fiscal Review Committee is aware of the abuse of taxpayer funds recently found in the audit on the Development Fund of North Dakota. We will be addressing this at our meeting on Tuesday, September 22 where appropriate actions will be pursued.

In my opinion, the Development Fund needs to be de-funded, and all parties involved should be held responsible if evidence is uncovered of attempted or actual crimes perpetrated against the citizens of North Dakota.

An audit of the ND Development Fund was recently released and its findings are disturbing to say the least! The audit exposed limited oversight and processes with some transactions in the millions of dollars not receiving proper approval or having a clear paper trail. Transparency and accountability is essential for a government to win and keep the support of the governed. This audit shows a lack of both.
