On Saturday, October 10, Officers Ulrich and Wallace responded to a neighbor's loud noise complaint about kids playing football in the street.

Although it was after juvenile curfew hours, the kids had parent permission to be outside and adult supervision nearby. In fact, one adult even stepped in as the game's referee.

Before joining the game, Officer Ulrich used his discretion to assess the situation and determined the noise level didn't meet the threshold for a violation of Fargo's noise ordinance. The officers also made sure to speak with the neighbor about the concern and talk with the kids before the game got back underway.

Officer Ulrich, who played one season for North Dakota Football, and Officer Wallace decided to join in for a few plays. Afterward, they spoke with the kids again before leaving, reminding them to keep the noise level down.

Calls like this are a reminder that not every situation needs to end with enforcement. These kids were spending time together playing football, and the officers saw an opportunity to encourage a positive activity and build relationships with members of our community.

The Fargo Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office and the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Katherine Frank, who was killed in the line of duty at just 26 years old.

Even in the face of this heartbreaking loss, Deputy Frank’s commitment to helping others continues through her decision to be an organ donor, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of others.

We stand with our law enforcement partners in South Dakota during this difficult time. Deputy Frank’s life, service and compassion will not be forgotten.

Rest easy, we'll take it from here. 🕯️💙

Passing of Deputy Katherine Frank -

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office announces with profound sadness the passing of Deputy Katherine Frank, age 26, earlier today. Deputy Frank was surrounded by her family and loved ones in her final moments. In her final act of service and generosity, she became an organ donor, continuing to help others even in her passing. Katherine worked at the South Dakota State Penitentiary from September 2022 until being hired with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office in June 2024.

Deputy Frank’s death is a significant loss to our agency and to the broader law enforcement community in and around Sioux Falls. She served the citizens of Minnehaha County with professionalism, humility, and dedication. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who have had the privilege of working alongside her.

A memorial has been established at the Law Enforcement Center located at 320 W. 4th St., Sioux Falls, SD, for those who wish to pay their respects. The Sheriff’s Office will also continue maintaining a presence at the hospital as we support her family during this difficult time.
Further information regarding funeral services, honors, and departmental arrangements will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Deputy Frank served with dignity and heart. Her service made a meaningful difference, and her impact will remain with us always.

Are you missing a snake? 🐍 We found an unexpected houseguest who we'd like to reunite with its owner!

Earlier today, Monday, October 12, Community Service Officer Harmon responded to a home in the 1300 block of 11th Ave. N. after the residents discovered a snake inside that didn't belong to them.

This orange-and-gold snake was briefly “in custody” in a police car-shaped plastic tub on its way to the Fargo Pound. It’s now settled into a proper enclosure while we work to find its owner.

If you're missing a pet snake or know someone who might be, call the Fargo Pound at 701-232-7312. Proper documentation or other proof of ownership will be required to claim it.

Spooky season is officially underway! 👻🎃

On Wednesday, October 7, our officers kicked off attending their first of several Trunk or Treat events this month at Bethel Church - Fargo, and the costumes did not disappoint! We spotted fellow officers, members of the SWAT team, skeletons, K-Pop Demon Hunters, soccer players and plenty of other creative costumes. Between the candy, high fives and Halloween spirit, it was a great evening!

Today, on Faith & Blue Day, we're celebrating the connections between law enforcement and the faith community. Attending events like this are a great reminder that building relationships doesn't always have to be complicated. Sometimes, it starts with handing out candy and getting to know one another.

Thank you to Bethel Church for having us! We're looking forward to more Halloween fun throughout October. 🍬

At the end of September, a few officers had the opportunity to attend a couple of block parties in our community!

They had a great time connecting with neighbors, hearing directly about the issues they’re experiencing and discussing how we can work together to address their concerns.

Thank you for the invites! We appreciate the opportunity to build relationships, listen to residents and find ways to better support our community! 💙
