Its collections include important holdings of eighteenth-century British prints, drawings, manuscripts, rare books, paintings, and decorative arts. Given to Yale by Wilmarth Sheldon Lewis (1895-1979) and Annie Burr Lewis (1902-1959), the Lewis Walpole Library is located in Farmington, Connecticut, in several eighteenth-century buildings on a fourteen-acre campus. The Lewis Walpole Library is a department of Yale University Library, open to researchers by appointment.

We love unexpectedly finding little sketches. These tiny pencil images of horse-drawn carts and people can be found on the flap of a letter dated 14 September 1828 from an unknown correspondent (Jordan?) to Thomas Walpole.

Happy ! This cheeky paid us a visit Wednesday. According to Connecticut DEEP:
"The bobcat is the only wild cat found in Connecticut and the most common wild cat in North America. Its status has changed dramatically in our state. Historically, bobcats were not protected in Connecticut and were viewed as a threat to agriculture and game species. The state even had a bounty on bobcats from 1935-1971. By the early 1970s, a large increase in the value of bobcat pelts raised concerns that the population could be overharvested. In addition, deforestation of the state’s landscape that peaked in the 1800s greatly reduced habitat for bobcats and many other wildlife species. In 1972, the bobcat was reclassified as a protected furbearer in Connecticut with no hunting or trapping seasons."

A group of students visited the LWL last week as part of the program.

The attendees ranged from newly arrived first year undergrad students to grad students. They each got an LWL 🧸stamp in their library passport toward entering a drawing for an individual study room at for the whole academic year.
