Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

As we observe this solemn anniversary, we remember the lives lost that day and in the years since as a result of the attacks. We honor the first responders who answered the call and all those who served in the days, weeks, and months that followed.

For our department, September 11 holds a particularly meaningful place in our history and in the history of the entire first responder community.

Pictured here is Engine 4, which traveled to New York City in September 2001 to assist with rescue efforts. Our department was one of many from across Connecticut that responded in the aftermath of the attacks.

This evening, our community is invited to come together in remembrance. Local Scouting organizations will host a town-wide September 11 remembrance ceremony at the Unionville Gazebo beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost, those who served, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

We will never forget.

We are incredibly proud to recognize FF/EMT Adrian Enrique. Adrian, alongside additional members of the Connecticut DEEP Forestry Division, has been deployed to Quebec to assist with ongoing wildfire operations.

Adrian has proudly served our department for several years, and his willingness to answer the call beyond our community reflects the dedication, courage, and professionalism he brings to the fire service.

Please join us in wishing Adrian and the entire crew a safe and successful deployment. We look forward to welcoming them home.

Last night, much of Connecticut experienced severe thunderstorms that produced damaging winds and hail, bringing down trees and power lines, closing roads, and displacing residents from their homes. At the height of the storm, Eversource and UI reported nearly 100,000 customers without power. Many communities issued shelter-in-place orders and declared local states of emergency as crews began responding to the widespread damage. Fortunately, Farmington was spared the worst of the storm.

A huge thank you to our volunteers who spent part of their Fourth of July evening serving our community. From last night into this morning, Farmington crews responded to numerous calls involving downed trees and power lines. Our personnel also assisted neighboring mutual aid departments, many of which were overwhelmed with dozens of emergency calls in the immediate aftermath of the storm.

As cleanup continues, please remember that many town crews and utility workers are still clearing debris, repairing damaged infrastructure, and restoring power. Additional heavy rain is expected over the next few days, so please use extra caution.

⚠️ If you come across a downed power line, always assume it is energized. Stay away, keep others away, and call 911 immediately. Never drive through standing water, as conditions beneath the surface can be impossible to judge.

Stay safe, and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend.

This week, we spent an evening in the woods conducting trail familiarization and driver/operator training with our UTV. We also reviewed potential access points and response routes that could be used to reach lost or injured hikers in the Rattlesnake Mountain area along the blue trail.

A special thank you to the Hometown Foundation Inc. for their generous donation of our Polaris Ranger which helps us access remote areas and better serve our community.

If you’re out hiking this summer, remember a few simple safety tips:

• Check the forecast before you go.
• Stay on marked trails.
• If you’re hiking alone, make sure you have a designated contact who knows where you’re hiking and when to expect you back. Additionally, establish a time with this person to alert authorities should you be overdue.
• Know your limits. Choose trails that match your fitness level and experience to avoid exhaustion and injury.
• Bring plenty of fuel: snacks and hydration are essential.

Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy Connecticut’s beautiful trails!

Touch-a-Truck at Winding Trails was a hit 🚒

Lots of exploring, climbing through the rigs, and getting an up-close look at everything.

Appreciate Winding Trails, Inc. having Farmington Fire, Tunxis Hose Company No. 1, East Farmington Volunteer Fire Department, Farmington Motor Sports, Farmington CT Police Department (and many other great local businesses) out for the day. Great event all around!
