More fire orevention talks today with the K-3 kiddos.

We would also like to take the time and recognize Ron Zessin. The kids know him as firefighter Ron but hes our Deputy Chief on the fire department.

This year makes 30 years 😳 that Ron has been teaching fire prevention to the Farmington kids.

For three decades, Ron has dedicated his time to helping generations of kids learn how to prevent fires and stay safe. His commitment to fire safety education has made a lasting difference in our schools and community.

The Farmington Fire Department thanks Ron for his dedication, patience, and service. Teaching children lessons that could one day save a life is something worth celebrating!

Thank you, Ron, for 30 years of making Farmington safer—one student at a time!

Ron will continue serving the community as a member of the fire department but he is passing the reins of fire prevention to new faces.

The Farmington Fire Department invites residents of the Farmington community and Fire Protection District to attend a Community Open House on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 6pm to learn more about the current fire station, the challenges facing the department, and the need to plan for a new fire station.

The purpose of the open house is to give the public an opportunity to see the existing facility firsthand, speak directly with members of the Fire Department, ask questions, and learn why the District is evaluating the construction of a new fire station.

Why Is a New Fire Station Needed?
The current Farmington fire station has served the community for many years, but the demands placed on the facility have changed considerably. Modern fire and emergency response requires larger apparatus, significantly more specialized equipment, improved firefighter protective equipment storage, training and administrative space, and facilities that support safe and efficient emergency operations.

The existing station presents several challenges, including limited apparatus and equipment space, inadequate storage, restricted room for training and department operations, and a building configuration that was not designed around the size and operational requirements of today's emergency vehicles and equipment.

A new station would be designed around the long-term emergency response needs of the District. The goal is not simply to construct a larger building, but to provide a functional facility that allows firefighters to respond efficiently, safely store and maintain apparatus and equipment, conduct necessary training, and serve the community for decades to come.
An Opportunity for the Community to See for Itself

We believe an important part of this process is giving residents an opportunity to see the current conditions and understand the challenges facing the Fire Department.

During the open house, members of the department will be available to provide tours of the existing station, discuss current operational and space limitations, explain the planning process for a potential new facility, and answer questions from residents.

No matter your opinion regarding a new fire station, we encourage you to attend, tour the facility, ask questions, and learn more about the needs of your Fire Department.

Press Release 09/18/2026

The Farmington Police Department is pleased to announce that David “Barry” Colter, the subject of an extensive four-day search, has been found safe and transported to a local hospital.

Over the past four days, personnel worked throughout the area, conducting searches, following up on information, checking locations, and coordinating resources to locate Barry. The search required tremendous time, dedication, and cooperation from everyone involved.
The Farmington Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to all local law enforcement agencies and emergency service organizations that assisted with the search. We are especially grateful to the CAM Search and Rescue Team for their time, expertise, equipment, and commitment throughout the operation.
We also want to recognize the Salvation Army, County Market, Casey's General Store, Joey and Rhonda Boggs, Kiley Riney, and community members who provided information, assisted when requested, shared official information, and supported the search effort. The concern shown by family, friends, neighbors, and community members demonstrated the strength of our community during a difficult situation.
