Samantha Sinsabaugh found out in April 2025 she had Aveolar ryabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer that develops in skeletal muscles. Worldwide 253 kids get this type of cancer each year.
She was kind, brave, courageous, humble, intelligent and empathetic towards others. She also loved to learn. Though she enjoyed going to school and participating in school events, she also enjoyed writing poetry and loved to read.
When they discovered the lump on Samantha’s pinky no one knew what it was. She was referred to three doctors: a pediatrician, a dermatologist and finally to an orthopedic hand surgeon to figure out it was a fatty lymphoma.
She underwent surgery in March 2025.
A month after the surgery, they discovered she had the rare type of cancer.
She was not predisposed to get it. It’s also not genetic. It just happened. Samantha fought long and hard and went into remission for four months. On the day of her last chemo in February 2026 (her day to ring the bell), they found another lump.
She fought bravely until the bitter end. Samantha passed away August 15, 2026.
Samantha loved her school and her teachers. This year would have been Samantha’s senior year at Northridge High School. She dreamed of receiving her diploma, attending Weber State University and becoming a hospice nurse.
Samantha’s journey is an inspiration to our students. Whether you already know your plan for after high school or still figuring it out, there are so many opportunities ahead of you. Seniors, think of Samantha as you continue through this year and carry her courage with you.
