Don't forget, if you're in town for the Frog Level Festival this weekend, pollinators aren't the only thing welcome at our garden. Stop by and check it out. It's located across from the train depot and will be right next to the antique car show.

What’s Been Happening at Fayette County Soil & Water!

We’ve been busy learning, growing, and working to serve the people of Fayette County! Here are a few updates from our office:

NCDEA Mid-Year Training
The first week of September, we attended the NCDEA Mid-Year Training at The Lodge at Gulf State Park. We had a wonderful time learning, networking, and bringing back new ideas to better serve our district!

ACDEA Quarterly Training
We also enjoyed a great ACDEA Quarterly Training in Thorsby this month. We always appreciate the opportunity to learn from and connect with other conservation professionals from across Alabama.

FY 2027 CIP Applications
We are currently accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2027 Conservation Incentive Program (CIP) practices! If you are interested in applying or would like more information about the available practices, please contact our office.

Don’t Forget Our Pollinator Garden!
If you’re heading downtown for the Frog Level Festival this Friday evening or Saturday, be sure to stop by and check out our community pollinator garden! We love having this little conservation project right here in our community and hope you’ll take a few minutes to enjoy it!

Office Closed – October 12
Our office will be closed on Monday, October 12th, in observance of Columbus Day. We will resume regular office hours on Tuesday, October 13th.

We had a wonderful time at this year’s Area 3 Annual Meeting hosted by the Pickens County Soil & Water Conservation District.

Fayette County was well represented by our District Administrative Coordinator, Ashley Townley, and four of our supervisors: Chairman Randy Slay, Vice Chairman Richard Galloway, Supervisor Warren Griffith and Supervisor Renette Gilreath.

We were especially proud to celebrate three outstanding Area 3 award winners from Fayette County:

Mr. Larry Trimm - Area 3 Farmer of the Year

Mr. Trent Hill - Area 3 Conservation Education Teacher of the Year

Mr. Warren Griffith - Area 3 Supervisor of the Year

Congratulations to each of these gentlemen on their well deserved honors!

A big thank you to the Pickens County Soil & Water Conservation District for hosting this year’s meeting and for all the hard work that went into making it such a great event. We always enjoy the opportunity to visit with fellow districts from across Area 3, celebrate conservation, and recognize the people who make a difference every day.

National Farmers Market Week is the perfect time to visit your local farmer’s market and meet the people who grow your food. Every tomato, peach and bunch of carrots starts with agricultural producers who work the land every day. At NRCS, we’re proud to support those producers by providing voluntary conservation assistance to protect our natural resources and keep working lands in working hands.

Visiting your local market this weekend? Drop a photo in the comments of your haul!
