Update for Lompico Rd - as of 5pm - follow winter schedule- use Lake BLVD - out bound at the top of the hour; inbound on the bottom half of the hour. PGE assumed responsibility for traffic as they conduct pole and line repairs. PGE has closed the road.
The use of Lake ( a private road) is a privilege extended by those road owners, please drive slow and respect their road. The “Fire Road” actually a private driveway utilized for outbound traffic today is only used in an emergency, the emergency status is over as there was an alternative. Thus, the private driveway has been closed and secured. Please drive safely and minimize travel in/out tonight as it is a hot mess.
BTW- most of the early day travelers the fire department encountered were not from Lompico, were unfamiliar with the roads and destined for the Lake. That is why we modified the travel route to minimize encounters on the arduous portion of lower Lake for everyone’s safety.
Pic- Seasoned Tree Whisperers at work. Shout out to Canyon Strong !

9/7/26 05:00p Road closure has been turned over to PGE, Lompico Road is still closed, please utilize the winter rules for Lower Lake Blvd. Drive with caution and patience.

This weekend concludes 40 hours of State certified Driver-Operator training for Fire Pump operations. The class provided by Ben Lomond Fire Asst. Chief Mike Ayers and Capt. Nick Burgess was attended by volunteer firefighters from Ben Lomond, Zayante and Felton Fire Districts. Experience comes from theory, policy, practice and performance. The students gained valuable experience in the art and science of Fire pump operations. Huge shout out to the instructors and students who committed their time to better serve our communities.

It’s been a busy two days! - Welcome back Engine 2437 and crew after 15 days in the Big Sur wilderness! An hour after returning and while rehabilitating the Engine- Zayante Fire was dispatched to a working structure fire on Fern Ridge Rd. The same crew staffed a structure engine and was first on scene aggressively attacking the Fire, preventing further extension into the main residence and containing the extension of Fire into the wildland. Zayante Fire responded with 3 Engines at 4 pm on a weekday and was assisted by Cal Fire who committed 5 Engines, 2 hand crews, a dozer, a Chief, 2 fixed wing air tankers and a helicopter. To say we are committed is an understatement! The main house was protected , a vehicle and carport are a loss and the occupants are safe.
Tonight, another Strike Team of Engines from Santa Cruz County is headed to the Plaskett Fire in Big Sure. Zayante Fire is remaining home and vigilant as we are under Red Flag conditions locally for lightning. Here is a big THANKs ! To our Zayante and Cal Fire firefighters who got it done in 90 plus degree heat yesterday!
Today, we returned borrowed water to homeowners water tanks borrowed during the Fire fight.
