⚖️ GENESEE COUNTY — The criminal case against former LakeVille Middle School teacher Matthew Chapin will not go to trial. Chapin has died.

His attorney, Matt Norwood, confirmed his death to ABC12 News, which reports he died by su***de. Chapin was out on bond.

Chapin was charged in two Genesee County cases with criminal sexual conduct. The charges involved alleged abuse of former LakeVille Middle School students while he taught there from 2011 to 2016. One former student came forward first, and more alleged victims came forward after that. He had denied the allegations, and none of them were ever proven in court. He was due back in court tomorrow, Thursday.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said: "Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected by this case... Unfortunately, the defendant's death means this case will not proceed to trial, and the allegations will not be heard in court." He asked that the victims' privacy be respected.

Please be kind in the comments. Keep the survivors and everyone in the LakeVille community in mind.

đź’™ If you're struggling, call or text 988 (Su***de & Crisis Lifeline), 24/7.
đź’ś Sexual assault survivors can reach the RAINN National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673.
