Homecoming, Fire District Style!

We had a blast leading the Rockwood Summit High School Homecoming Parade!

Our firefighters traded fire hoses for candy duty, walking the parade route and handing out treats to the crowd.

And of course, we couldn't resist a little fun with our utility vehicle! Let's just say the water spray got just close enough to keep everyone on their toes!

Thanks to Rockwood Summit for letting us be part of the celebration! We love getting out into our community, sharing some laughs, and making memories along the way.

Crews are wrapping up a fully involved vehicle fire on Hawkins Rd and Loggers Trail. (10/11 at 12:50 pm)

Vehicle fires can present unique hazards, making training, teamwork, and safe firefighting operations essential. Our crews train regularly to be prepared for moments just like these.

🔥 TOP 10 THINGS WE HEARD FROM STUDENTS — WEEK TWO OF FIRE PREVENTION! 😂

We thought week one was entertaining. Then came WEEK TWO!

We've learned that dinosaurs outrank firefighters, penguins apparently shouldn't wear hats near stoves, and some of these kids might be qualified to teach US a thing or two.

Here are our Top 10 favorite moments from Week Two!

1. Us: “Firefighters are just like you! They're mommies and daddies and have brothers and sisters.”
Student: “Why are they mommies and daddies?”
➡️ And just like that, our PR person was stumped. Moving on! 😂

2. “Um. Umm. Ummm. If you put a penguin on the stove. Ummm. It will catch. Ummm. Wearing a hat. Ummm. It will catch FIRE!” 🐧🔥
➡️ We have several follow-up questions. None of them are about fire safety.

3. “Are you stronger than my dad?” 💪
➡️ We're not getting involved in that competition.

4. “I love firefighters, but I love dinosaurs more.” 🦖
➡️ Fair enough. Dinosaurs are pretty cool.

5. Student stepping out of the Fire Safety Trailer: “Do you LIVE in there?”
Us: “Yes. Yes, we do.”
➡️ One room. One tiny bed. No bathroom. We make it work. lol

6. At lunch, a student looks over and says: “I never thought I would EVER be sitting next to a real LIVE firefighter.” ❤️
➡️ And just like that, our hearts melted.

7. “Will you come to my birthday party tonight?” 🎂
➡️ We're honored to make the guest list!

8. Us: “Does anyone know the three things needed to make a fire?”
Student: “YES! Oxygen, fuel and heat!”
Us: “Oh! Well, you knew that one. Correct!”
➡️ Okay, we've got some future firefighters in here!

9. Us: “Does anyone know what kind of ions are in a battery?”
Same student: “ME! It has an anode, cathode, sometimes copper, a separator and potassium.”
Us: 👀 Blink. Blink.
Student: “My dad works with batteries.” 🔋
➡️ Well, that explains a LOT. We're pretty sure he could teach the next class.

10. Us: “Does anyone know what's making this sound? BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!”
Student: “ARE YOU BACKING UP?” 🚒
➡️ Technically, that's a pretty reasonable guess!

😂 TWO WEEKS DOWN!

But between all the laughs, we're teaching important lessons about fire safety, and these students are making every visit memorable.

We can't wait to see what Week Three brings! Yes, these are real questions from your precious students.

🔥 TOP 10 THINGS WE HEARD FROM STUDENTS. WEEK ONE OF FIRE PREVENTION 😂

We go into schools ready to teach fire safety. Somehow, the students always teach us a few things too.

Here are a few of our favorite questions, comments and stories from week one:

1. “I know where babies come from.”
➡️ This happened approximately 90 seconds into our visit. We knew it was going to be a good day.

2. “My dad, when he cooks… he ALWAYS sets off the smoke detectors.” 😂

3. “My mom said my dad isn’t allowed to bake cookies.” Different kid.

4. “Do you love your job?” ❤️
➡️ Yes. Especially on days like these.

5. Us: “What’s one of the biggest dangers when cooking ramen noodles or mac & cheese in the microwave?”
Student: “OHHH, I KNOW! No water! I started a fire in our microwave!” 😳
➡️ Well… that lesson came with experience.

6. “How much does your gear weigh?”
➡️ About 80 pounds!

7. “Do you like Messi or Ronaldo more?” ⚽
Firefighter #1: “Messi.”
➡️ Complete classroom outrage.

Firefighter #2: “Ronaldo!”
➡️ Order restored.

8. “THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!” 🥹

9. “This is the WORST day of my life because I saw smoke.”
➡️ The Safety House can be a roller coaster of emotions.

10. “Do you sleep in the Safety House?” 😂

And that’s just week one.

Fire prevention education is serious business, but spending time with our youngest community members comes with plenty of laughs, great questions and stories we definitely couldn’t make up.

Everyone has a 9/11 story.

Where you were.
Who you were with.
What you remember.
Who you lost.
Who you will never forget.

When we share those stories, we keep their memories alive—not only the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, but also those we have lost in the years since from illnesses connected to that day.

Today, tell the stories. Listen to the stories. Say their names.

Where were you on September 11, 2001?

We remember.

As you drive by our Station 3, you’ll see 343 American flags placed in the yard by our firefighters.

Each one represents a firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Today, their memory stands outside our firehouse.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Serving Beyond Fenton

Three of our Fenton firefighter/paramedics recently had the opportunity to serve with the Missouri State Fair Fire Department—and this year marked its 65th anniversary!

The State Fair Fire Department is believed to be the only fully functional fire department in the nation that operates just 11 days a year. This year, it brought together 127 volunteer personnel from 69 fire departments across Missouri.

During those 11 days, crews responded to 214 emergency calls, supported by six ambulances, three fire trucks, two tankers, three squads, command vehicles and UTVs.

We’re proud of our firefighters for representing Fenton and working alongside first responders from across Missouri. It’s a great example of the teamwork and relationships that make the fire service special.

Commitment Beyond the Call.
