🚒 Welcome to the FBFD Family! 🚒

The Fernandina Beach Fire Department would like to congratulate our two newest recruits on successfully completing their first week of orientation last Friday!

Throughout the week, these recruits participated in hands-on training, familiarization with department operations, and exercises designed to prepare them for their new roles. We are excited to welcome them to our team and look forward to watching them grow throughout their careers!

We would also like to extend a special THANK YOU to The Home Depot for their generous donation of lumber, roofing shingles, and other building materials used to support our training exercises. Their generosity helps provide valuable hands-on training opportunities for our firefighters.

We sincerely appreciate the continued support of our local businesses and community partners!

Please join us in congratulating Chiesa and Stone as they begin their journey of serving and protecting our community! 🚒👏

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — We Remember. We Honor. We Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Earlier today, members of the Fernandina Beach Fire Department stood alongside the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, Nassau County Fire Rescue, and Fernandina Beach Police Department at the September 11th Memorial Ceremony to honor the lives lost and remember all those whose lives were forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS professionals, military members, civilians, and countless others who answered the call during our nation’s darkest hours.

We especially honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while running toward danger to save others. Their courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to service remain a lasting example to every first responder who proudly wears the uniform today.

As we gather in remembrance, we also hold close the families, friends, colleagues, and communities who continue to carry the loss of those who never came home.

We remember the lives lost. We honor the heroes who served. We carry forward their legacy of courage and service. And we will never forget.

🇺🇸 9.11.01 — Never Forget.

Today, members of the Fernandina Beach Fire Department climbed 110 stories in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

We honor the 343 FDNY firefighters, along with the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and other first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty that day.

110 stories. 343 firefighters. 25 years later, we still remember.

Thank you to Jillian Torres Photography for joining us and capturing these powerful moments of remembrance.

Yesterday, our crews responded to a commercial smoke investigation. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly located the source and determined that a small amount of wood chips were smoldering in an isolated area on an elevated catwalk.

Our crews immediately went to work, supplying water to the affected area and carefully suppressing the smoldering wood chips. Through their quick response and teamwork, the incident was brought under control without further escalation.

We are incredibly proud of the professionalism and dedication our firefighters demonstrate on every call. Incidents like this are a great reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant, working safely, and having well-trained crews prepared to respond when called upon.

Whether responding to a major emergency or investigating what may initially appear to be a minor incident, our firefighters approach every call with the same level of commitment and professionalism. Their dedication, teamwork, and service to our community do not go unnoticed.

Thank you to our crews for the hard work you put in every day to keep our community safe. We are proud to have you serving our community!

Last week, the Fernandina Beach Fire Department had the pleasure of welcoming the City Manager's Citizens' Academy to one of our fire stations for an inside look at the people, equipment, and training that help keep our community safe.

Chief Holmes kicked off the visit with an overview of our department, highlighting the many critical roles our firefighters and staff perform everyday.

Participants then had the opportunity to experience several live demonstrations showcasing the skills and equipment our crews rely on during emergencies. These included forcible door entry, the use of thermal imaging technology, and a mock cardiac arrest scenario that provided insight into how our personnel work together to deliver lifesaving care.

We were also honored to be joined by LifeFlight, whose crew flew in their helicopter and gave attendees a closer look at the aircraft, its capabilities, and the vital role it plays in providing rapid critical care and transport throughout our region.

Thank you to everyone who attended and invested the time to learn more about our fire department. Community engagement is an important part of our mission, and we appreciate the opportunity to share what we do and why we do it.
