We'll be setting up 20 nest boxes on the farm for the Prothonotary Warbler. This is the next step in our rewilding and is supported by a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. The nest boxes will get placed in the woods in late winter and early spring of 2027.

The pollinators are blooming and the bees are buzzing at Whippoorwill. Showy tickseed and partridge pea are the main bloomers. In the lower field, next to Lake Yolo, swamp milkweed is taking off. Pawpaws are ripening by the creek. Nature is glorious!

The spring and summer rains have been wonderful for our tree seedlings. Many are ready to have their tubes removed, including this oak tree. The 1,475 seedlings were planted on 4.8 acres in March 2025 by Arbor Springs Forestry in Burns, TN and funded by a grant from the Department of Agriculture. We planted these species: persimmon, Chickasaw plum, white oak, Shumard oak, pecan, cherry bark oak, Nuttall oak, and willow oak. The goal is to provide food and habitat for wildlife.

Our native grasses and wildflowers are showing their colors! We planted .06 of an acre using seeds from Roundstone Seed Company. We received a grant from the Department of Agriculture to help with the cost of buying the seeds (they are expensive!). It was a family project to prepare the area and then hand sow the seeds.

Meet Pepper, our new farm kitty! Be sure to turn up the volume in the video - he is a purring machine. Pepper loves to play and makes biscuits whenever you look at him. Such a sweetheart and we love him!

We have three baby goslings at the farm! Mama nested on Lake Yolo Island and the proud parents brought their babies to the edge of Lake Yolo today. You have to look under Mama Goose to see one of the babies. I'll try to get better pictures soon. Mama and Papa were being very protective and I didn't want to stress the new family.
