We had all smiles around the fire house Monday night!

It was our pleasure to open our doors and host this great community that we are proud to serve! Thankfully the storms remained just far enough away that the fun could continue without disruption.

We want to take a moment thank our sponsors who donated refreshments for the evening: Leppinks Food Centers, Greek Tony's Pizza & Sub Shop- Ferrysburg, and A La Mode. We also want to thank Citgo Terminal and Buckeye Terminal for their financial support towards the purchase of fire prevention materials. All of your contributions are always so appreciated!

Thank you Ferrysburg for your continued support of our department! We can’t wait to see you again next year!

The Fire Prevention Open House begins shortly!

Join us from 6-8 pm for station tours, fire truck rides and exhibits. We look forward to seeing you!

IMPORTANT NOTE: This year’s route for fire truck rides will be forced to change due to downtown construction on Pine Street. The route will depart the station west on North Shore before looping on Place Place Circle and returning to the station.

With our Fire Prevention Open House just four days away, we wanted to take a look back at some memories from past Open Houses.

Since the beginning of our department, generations of Ferrysburg families have taken one night in October to come down to the fire barn, visit with our members, learn about our capabilities and about home fire safety.

Remember that this year’s Open House will take place this Monday, October 12th, from 6-8 pm at our station. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

At 3:23 PM today, Ferrysburg Fire Department was dispatched for a reported personal injury accident with occupants pinned in the vehicle.

Engines 721, 720, and Squad 770 responded to the scene with a total of five personnel. South bound US-31 was initially blocked completely for extrication to occur, but after finding all involved occupants able to escape, responding apparatus were repositioned for scene security and one lane was reopened.

FFD units remained on scene while the vehicles were removed from the roadway, and US-31 was reopened after approximately 40 minutes.

We would like to encourage all drivers to slow down and remain vigilant around road work zones as MDOT bridge inspections have been ongoing in the Tri-Cities area this week.

Sparky the Fire Dog is inviting you over to his house!

The annual Ferrysburg Fire Prevention Open House will be occurring at the fire barn on October 12th from 6-8 pm. Invite your friends and family for a fun evening while you meet our firefighters, our mutual aid partners, and many local vendors.

Sparky will be walking around for photos and fire truck rides throughout the evening, so be sure to get a high five and say hello! He can’t wait to see you all there!

This weekend, Firefighter Cody Pekel had the opportunity to attend an outside training opportunity led by one of America’s leading fire scientists.

Keith Stakes, from Fire Safety Research Institute, was in Michigan for the very first time to instruct The Residential Fireground Playbook. This class provides the science behind a variety of fireground tactics and examines how they affect fire victim survivability.

The training included a day of classroom instruction and a day of hands on training, including flowing hose lines and putting the classroom concepts into practice. The knowledge and experience gained through this training will be valuable to our department fireground operations.

Thank you to Alpine Township Fire Department and Grand Haven Township Fire/Rescue for hosting this training. And a huge thank you to Keith and his team at UL for their continued commitment to improving the American fire service.

Very cool showing by Grand Haven High School at their Valor Game last night. The game is designed to recognize those who serve our country and our community, and one of our own members was recognized.

Cadet Frank Mulcahy is a senior on the Grand Haven varsity football team and joined our department over the summer. We are extremely impressed by the commitment that Frank shows to his studies, his sports, and to our department. We are excited for him to be starting his career in our department and cannot wait to see the leader that he grows into.

Frank Mulcahy, Luke Ratke and Liam Deaton are current football players AND FIRST RESPONDERS who serve Robinson Township, Ferrysburg and Grand Haven! These three will be honored during tonight’s VALOR GAME!

On the 25th anniversary of September 11th, 2001, the members of the Ferrysburg Fire Department remember the courage and sacrifice of the members of the FDNY, NYPD, and Port Authority Police Department who ran towards danger to save their fellow countrymen.

To the families and friends left behind, we pray for continued comfort and strength. We will never forget, and we refuse to let their service be in vain.

This week you may have noticed a temporary structure in the parking lot near our fire station. On Monday night, our firefighters used this prop in order to train on nozzle usage and see visual representation of how air moves within a structure when flowing the line.

Captain Olthof along with guest instructor LT Brandon Puckett from Sand Lake Fire Department built the prop and ran scenarios focusing on efficient hoseline deployment and using the nozzle stream as a “sonar” in black out conditions.

Thank you to LT Puckett for coming out to train with our crews, and to each of the members for their continued commitment to the craft.

Another Ferrysburg Fourth of July is in the books!

It was great to get to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with everyone in our community. From the Mayor’s Breakfast to the Dewey Hill fireworks stand by, Independence Day is one of our favorite holidays!
