* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of Utah, including the following areas, Western Millard and Juab Counties, Bear Lake and Bear River Valley, Cache Valley/Utah Portion, Eastern Box Elder County, Great Salt Lake Desert and Mountains, Northern Wasatch Front, Salt Lake Valley, Tooele and Rush Valleys, Utah Valley, Wasatch Back, Wasatch Mountains I-80 North, Wasatch Mountains South of I-80, Western Uinta Basin and Western Uinta Mountains. This includes recent burn scars such as Rocky Canyon. * WHEN...From late tonight through Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and recent burn scars. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Moisture associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel will move into northern Utah this weekend producing a prolonged rainfall event. In particular, moisture interacting with a frontal boundary across far northern Utah may yield locally heavier rainfall totals compared to other locations. NWS Salt Lake City has produced a weather briefing. Highlights for this briefing include:

Widespread showers and thunderstorms associated with currently-named Tropical Storm Rachel will begin to move into southwest Utah Saturday evening, and continue through Sunday evening. Sunday currently features the highest risk for flash flooding due to the potential for strong thunderstorms.

A low risk for flash flooding begins Saturday, especially during the afternoon and early evening, when there is just under a 10% chance for 0.25" of rain.

On Sunday, there is a 20-30% chance of receiving 1" of rain, and just under a 10% chance of receiving 2" of rain from multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms.

While the heavy rain potential diminishes Monday, additional rain showers are likely to persist as late as Tuesday night. These additional periods of rain will not be as heavy.

Stay tuned to forecast updates. Because the rainfall potential is related to tropical storm remnants moving inland through Southern California and Nevada, there are a wide range of potential outcomes depending on the ultimate track.

Once again we benefited from Fillmore City & Millard County workers’ skills and dedication in the flood mitigation efforts. This afternoon’s rain brought unexpected water & debris flow down Chalk Creek. There was minor flooding on Pink Elephant Lane at the golf course, but we’ve received no reports of damage.

The black water is ash breaking up and releasing from the mountains.
