Emergency Alert Change January 1 2027

A joint message from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, City of Findlay and Hancock County Emergency Management Agency
Our Everbridge agreement ends December 31, 2026. Beginning January 1, 2027, the participating agencies' Everbridge notifications, including automated telephone alert calls, will stop. We will use the Sheriff's App messaging system and IPAWS for qualifying emergencies.
For Findlay and county residents: Download the FREE Hancock County Sheriff's App for local Sheriff's Office and City of Findlay notifications. No account or signup is required. Your Everbridge enrollment does not transfer to the app.
1. Scan the QR code below or search Hancock County Sheriff OH in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
2. Allow app notifications in your phone's settings.
3. Open the app's settings and select the message channels and areas you want, including City of Findlay messages if applicable.
Download from the: Apple App Store | Google Play
Already have the app? Check your phone permissions and app notification selections.
Level 1 and Level 2 road advisories will appear in the app and on official social media. App messages are push notifications, not calls; sounds depend on your phone settings.
The Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) can deliver Wireless Emergency Alerts to compatible phones in the affected area without an app or signup. Keep phone emergency alerts enabled. These alerts may sound loudly and vibrate, including overnight; they are not calls. Receipt depends on your device, carrier, coverage and settings. Level 3 snow emergencies may use IPAWS when applicable criteria and authorization are met.
National Weather Service Wireless Emergency alerts operate within the Sheriff's App and are sent through the Sheriff’s App automatically or separately by officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office or the City of Findlay.
No compatible phone? Use local radio, TV and NOAA Weather Radio. Use more than one alert source.
Questions: 419-424-7097 (administrative office, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.) or [email protected]. Please do not call 911 for app setup. Download before January 1 and share this notice with family and neighbors.

Harvest season is here—please share the road with care.

Our farming community has already begun harvesting crops and you have probably seen an increase in more tractors, combines, and other farm equipment traveling our roads.
As a reminder I would like to remind motorist that Patience is of the utmost importance. Please allow for extra time in your daily travels, slow down when approaching farm machinery, and give operators plenty of room.
Please keep these reminders in mind:
• Stay alert in rural areas. Farm equipment may enter the road from a farm lane or directly from a field—not just at a roadway intersection.• Keep a safe following distance. Large equipment can limit your view of traffic ahead.• Pass only when it is safe and permitted. Make sure you have a clear view ahead and enough room to complete the pass safely.• Watch for turns. Farm machinery may need extra room to turn into a field or driveway. Avoid assuming an operator moving right is inviting you to pass.• Put distractions away. Keep your attention on the road and changing conditions around you.
Our farmers are working long hours, and everyone deserves to make it home safely. A few extra minutes of patience can make all the difference.
Slow down. Give them room. Help make this a safe harvest season for everyone.
Michael A. Cortez, Sheriff
