When I first met my mentee in 6th grade, he was navigating some big struggles—anger, behavior, and challenges at school. Three years later in high school, I asked him, “So, what changed?”
His one-word answer stopped me. “You.”
The truth is that I haven’t done anything extraordinary. I’ve just shown up. Sat across a table. Talked about life. Played cards. Listened. Encouraged him.
Sometimes, simply showing up can make an extraordinary difference. That’s the heart of mentoring.
