Dane County Emergency Management was joined by Dane County Executive Melissa Agard Tuesday to announce the deployment of two new Harm Reduction Vending Machines in the community. The new machines are stocked with Naloxone, other harm reduction supplies, and personal care items – all free of charge.

The new machines are located outside the Sunshine Place community resource hub in Sun Prairie (18 Rickel Rd, Sun Prairie, WI) and the Stoughton Health emergency department entrance (900 Ridge St., Stoughton, WI). They join two other DCEM-maintained machines already in service in Madison, located outside of the UW Hospital emergency department and St. Mary’s Hospital.

Many of us carry around portable electronic devices. The batteries in those devices can be a fire risk, especially if they have not been charged properly or dropping it damaged the battery.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

REMINDER - Dane County's monthly outdoor warning siren test will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at around noon.

Sirens are tested monthly to ensure they are ready when needed. Monthly tests may be canceled if there is a risk of severe weather.
Please contact DCEM at [email protected] if:

-A siren did not sound at all at noon
-A siren did not sound for three minutes

Outdoor warning sirens in Dane County are activated when the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Warning or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning with the "destructive" tag.

Maintenance in progress!

We are currently conducting preventative maintenance on outdoor warning sirens throughout Dane County. Part of this process includes a “quiet test” of a siren, which requires a brief activation at the current location that lasts just a few seconds. This is an ongoing process that should be completed by Wednesday of this week.

If you hear this sound, it just means a maintenance crew is in your area. There is no need to take any action or contact our office.

Following a disaster, a home emergency kit can help ensure your family has basic supplies available until relief efforts get organized. Kits should have about three days of supplies in them. Keep everything in a waterproof container and store it in an easy to access place in your home!

With heavy rain in the forecast, it’s a good time to brush up on flash flooding safety. Never drive or walk through flooded areas. If water levels start to rise, get to higher ground quickly. Have multiple ways to receive updates and alerts about potential flooding.
