Next up on our Firehouse Feature series, we’re proud to introduce Lieutenant Garrett Christian!
Garrett has been with the Fitchburg Fire Department for almost seven years, serving our community with dedication and teamwork.
🚒 What made you decide to become a firefighter?
“Ever since I was little, I have always had the drive to give back to my community. Growing up, I enjoyed playing sports and being part of a team. I think firefighting is very similar to sports because you count on each member of your team to accomplish the job or handle the fire at hand.”
🚒 What’s your favorite part of the job?
“My favorite part of the job is being able to serve our community. I really enjoy going into schools, giving tours of the firehouse, and teaching our younger generation about what we do as firefighters when we aren’t responding to calls. The fire department is truly my second family. The brotherhood and sisterhood give me an opportunity every time I go into work to catch up with my crew and enjoy the camaraderie at the firehouse.”
🚒 What do you enjoy doing on your days off?
“When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a family of four, with a newer addition who arrived earlier this year, which has kept me busy as a father. I also enjoy staying active when I’m not working. That includes working out, going on walks, playing sports, and attending sporting events to cheer on my favorite teams.”
🚒 What do you like most about serving the Fitchburg community?
“The Fitchburg Fire Department is very unique because we serve a diverse community. We also have rural areas that we cover, so we have to make sure we are ready for whatever call comes in and whatever situation our crews may face.”
Thank you, Lieutenant Christian, for the leadership, teamwork, and positivity you bring to our department every day!
