As we continue recognizing Fire Prevention Month, SFMD crews will be visiting Cromer Elementary this week and next to provide fire safety presentations to students. These visits are a great opportunity to educate our community, promote fire safety awareness, and build connections with the next generation.
We always appreciate the opportunity to connect with our community and look forward to seeing everyone at Cromer Elementary!

🔥FIRE PREVENTION WEEK🔥

Soft Surface? Hard Pass.
Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor. Beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat.

On a Flight? Keep It Insight.
When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

Fully Charged? Time to Unplug.
Unplug your device when it is fully charged. Leaving it plugged in longer than needed can increase heat and stress on the battery.

Thank you to the Flagstaff Exchange Club, Flagstaff Elks Lodge and their sponsors for hosting and for honoring our regions first responders, including our own Firefighter of the Year, Captain/Paramedic David Russo. Captain Russo has proven his dedication to our department and community throughout his career, and continues to ensure that our community members receive the utmost in patient care. Congratulations, and thank you Captain Russo, for all that you do.

🔥FIRE PREVENTION WEEK🔥

For Tools and Rides, Charge Outside.
Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

🔥🔋 CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY! 🔋🔥
Lithium-ion batteries power our phones, tools, e-bikes, and more—but charging them incorrectly can create a serious fire risk.
🔌 Use the correct charger
🚫 Don’t charge on beds or couches
⚠️ Stop using batteries that are hot, swollen, leaking, smoking, or making strange sounds
🔋 Unplug when fully charged
Charge smart. Charge safe. Prevent battery fires.
This Fire Prevention Month, let’s all Charge Into Fire Safety! 🔥
