Rain and thunderstorms are expected to move into the area later this evening, becoming more widespread into Friday morning. Areas of heavy rainfall are expected, with the highest totals near a line from Chamberlain to Tracy. Severe weather is not expected into Friday morning. Additional showers and storms are possible Friday afternoon and evening.

After one more day of seasonable temperatures, increased heat and humidity will return for the last weekend of July. 🥵

Those with outdoor plans should take care to prevent heat illness, drinking plenty of water & spending time in air-conditioned places when possible.

While details in timing and coverage are uncertain, we are monitoring a conditional risk for severe storms Sunday evening into the overnight.

Be sure to monitor the latest forecast for updates and make sure you can receive watches and warnings, especially at night.

Temperatures continue to warm through this week, with highs mostly in the 90s to lower 100s. With lots of sunshine, UV index will also be very high. Check out these tips for limiting sun and heat exposure, as well as reducing your risk for heat illness. Dry weather prevails.

Scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible late this Saturday evening through Sunday morning. Most of the strong to severe storms should remain in northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa, generally south of U.S. Highway 18. Some weaker showers and thunderstorms could reach further north into southeast South Dakota and southwest Minnesota. Hail up to the size of quarters and wind gusts to around 60 mph will be possible near and south of U.S. Highway 20. Ensure you have a method to receive possible warnings, especially while you are sleeping overnight into Sunday.
