Happy Halloween! Trick-or-treating hours are from 6:00-8:00 p.m. tonight 🎃👻

We will have officers patrolling neighborhoods, but we need everyone's help to make it a safe and fun evening. Keep these safety tips in mind:

🍬 Use sidewalks when available, cross at crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing.

🔦 Carry a flashlight, wear reflective items, and make sure children are accompanied by an adult.

🏠 Only visit homes with their porch lights on, and never enter a stranger’s home.

🚗 Watch for trick-or-treaters and use extra caution in residential neighborhoods. Have a sober driver!!

Have a safe and happy Halloween! 🎃🚔

Last night, participants took part in a Crashes Are Preventable presentation led by several of our officers.

Sgt. Bueche discussed major crashes in Grand Blanc and why this training hits close to home for our officers. Officer Theede shared his work with the Crash Investigation Reconstruction Team (C.I.R.T.), Officer O’Brien covered OWIs, and Officer McTaggart busted common myths about traffic stops and highlighted the importance of moving over for emergency vehicles.

Next up: graduation! We’ll celebrate with our participants next Monday as they wrap up their Citizens Police Academy experience.

Another week of Citizens Police Academy!

This Monday, Officer Whitt and Captain McCoy led participants through ASAPP (Active Shooter Attack Prevention and Preparedness) training. The course equips participants with knowledge and skills to help them prepare for and respond to an active assailant situation.

The Grand Blanc Township Police Department offers ASAPP training to businesses, organizations and medical facilities located within Grand Blanc Township. This approximately two-hour session helps staff better understand how to respond in an active shooter situation and prepare for emergencies.

Interested in scheduling training for your workplace or organization? Contact Lieutenant Gilbert at [email protected] for more information!

It was a beautiful night to get outside for an action packed Week 5 of Citizens Police Academy!

The class met several members of our team and learned more about the tools and technology we use to serve our community:

· K9 Unit: Officer Cole and K9 Red shared more about the work of the K9 team. Red was also happy to accept plenty of pets from the class!
· Bike Patrol: Officer Weber and Officer Lyons discussed the benefits of bike patrol, especially at large community events like the Ally Challenge.
· Motorcycle Unit: Sgt. Bueche and Officer McTaggart demonstrated the motorcycle unit and explained how motorcycles support traffic enforcement, provide rapid response in heavy traffic, assist with es**rt duties and serve as a great tool for community engagement.
· Drone Demonstration: Sgt. Bueche and Officer McTaggart showed how drones assist with locating missing persons, tracking fleeing suspects and helping officers assess situations before approaching.
· Radar/LIDAR Demonstration: Officer Theede wrapped up the evening by demonstrating the technology officers use for traffic enforcement.

We’re proud of our incredible team and grateful for the tools we have to help serve our community!

What began as a traffic stop in the north end of Grand Blanc Township for a vehicle displaying no license plate quickly escalated when the driver fled.

The pursuit led our officers into the City of Flint, where the vehicle was located disabled and unoccupied. A Genesee County Deputy located and arrested the driver a few houses away from the vehicle.

The vehicle was determined to have been recently stolen out of Flint Township.

The driver was found to have five outstanding warrants for his arrest, including three for violent felonies.

We appreciate the partnership and teamwork that helped bring this incident to a close.

Week 4 of Citizens Police Academy was all about traffic safety and impaired driving.

Lt. Gilbert covered traffic enforcement, followed by Sgt. Evans sharing his expertise on OWI detection. With multiple awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving and experience advocating for impaired driving legislation, Sgt. Evans brought a wealth of knowledge to the conversation.

Participants also got a firsthand look at the dangers of impaired and distracted driving thanks to the Michigan State Police, who generously provided their driving simulator. It was a great reminder of the importance of making safe choices behind the wheel.
