What happens when you call 911 for a medical emergency?

When you call 911 in Carroll County, dispatchers gather important information while sending help your way.

Your answers help responders understand the situation and determine whether additional resources are needed, such as fire, law enforcement, or even a medical helicopter.

As a rural county without a hospital, some emergencies require specialized care in larger cities like Indianapolis. Getting the right resources involved early can make a big difference.

It's a beautiful day to educate! Today we are out with the Flora Fire Department teaching area preschoolers when to call 911 and why not to be afraid of our ambulance and fire crews.

💜 September 30 is NICU Awareness Day!

Having a baby in the NICU can be an emotional roller coaster filled with fear, hope, and milestones that mean everything.

Today, Carroll County EMS recognizes NICU babies and graduates, their families, and the healthcare professionals who care for them. NICU awareness also reminds us why pediatric emergency preparedness matters.

Our ambulances carry Handtevy, a pediatric emergency reference system that helps providers quickly determine the correct medication doses based on a child’s weight, select appropriately sized equipment, and access other critical treatment information. This helps reduce calculation time and supports accurate, consistent care during high-stress emergencies.

We may not respond to pediatric emergencies every day but we train and prepare so we are ready when our smallest patients need us most. 🚑

🚂 Railroad Emergency Response Training 🚑

Did you know 20–25 trains travel through Delphi every day—that’s more than 7,000 trains each year? Rail lines also pass through other parts of Carroll County, including Flora and Camden, making railroad safety an important part of our emergency preparedness.

Today, some members of Carroll County EMS attended railroad emergency response training provided by Norfolk Southern.

Railroad emergencies aren’t always derailments. From a medical emergency aboard a locomotive to incidents involving crossings or hazardous materials, knowing how to safely work around trains helps us be ready when we’re needed. 🚑 🚂

Tonight we get the opprotunity to help out another county.

On occasion we get called into other counties to assist with 911 calls when all of their ambulances are busy or there is a serious call requiring extra help. Sometimes, you might see them in our county giving us a helping hand. Today, we get to repay them for their help.

Medic 1, along with ambulances from multiple other agencies, is assisting to provide medical coverage at the Luke Bryan concert in White County.

If you will be out enjoying the show, please be weather aware and make good choices. We hope we don't have to see you tonight, but we will be here to help if you need us!

It’s Friday night in Carroll County! Carroll County EMS wants to wish both of our county teams the best of luck under the lights tonight! 🏈

As everyone heads out to cheer them on, we also want to share a quick reminder about recognizing the signs of a possible concussion:

• Headache or dizziness
• Confusion or feeling “foggy”
• Balance problems
• Nausea or vomiting
• Blurred or double vision
• Unusual behavior or increasing sleepiness

If a concussion 🧠 is suspected, when in doubt, sit them out. Symptoms aren’t always immediate, so continue watching an athlete after a hard hit and speak up if something doesn’t seem right.

🚑 If someone becomes seriously ill or injured, symptoms are rapidly worsening, or you believe there is a medical emergency, call 911.

With the Indiana 911 Professionals Conference happening this week, we thought it was a good time to give a shoutout to our dispatchers at Carroll County, IN Central Dispatch! 📞

They’re the ones answering the call, getting us headed in the right direction, and keeping us updated while we’re on scene and on the road. We definitely couldn’t do what we do without them.

Thank you to our dispatchers for everything you do for CCEMS and Carroll County! 🚑 We appreciate you!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our crew to yours!

Although we weren't able to spend the holiday at home today, we were able to spend the day with our CCEMS family and friends while serving the community. Thank you to the Carroll County community for making this such a wonderful place to live and work!

We also want to say a special thank you to the anonymous biker that stopped one of our ambulances today to deliver a card and some blessings! You made our day! Thank you!
