RE: Summer Meal Program 2026
Florence Unified School District remains committed to supporting the needs of our students and families throughout the year. However, after careful review and consideration, FUSD will not be operating a summer meals program during Summer 2026.
Over the past several years, the District has continued offering summer meal services in hopes that participation would grow and allow the program to remain sustainable. Unfortunately, participation numbers have steadily declined and are no longer at a level that makes the program financially feasible to continue at this time.
The cost of food, staffing, and program operations now exceeds the reimbursement received through the state summer meals program. In addition, food vendors require minimum order amounts in order to deliver fresh produce and dairy products. Because participation has remained low, the District has often had to order more food than needed, resulting in unused food that could not be utilized before expiring.
Despite these challenges, we are encouraged that many qualifying families will continue receiving assistance through the Sun Bucks Summer EBT Program, which helps provide grocery support for eligible students during the summer months.
Families seeking summer meal opportunities may also visit nearby meal sites in neighboring communities, including Coolidge and San Tan Valley. Specific times and locations are noted on the flyers.
We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our families and community. Florence Unified School District remains dedicated to serving students and ensuring they are supported both inside and outside the classroom.
Respectfully,
Florence Unified School District #1
