🗳️ Know before you go VOTE!

Supporting the arts starts with knowing where candidates stand. The Texas Arts Education Campaign and Texas Music Educators Association asked candidates for the Texas Legislature and State Board of Education about fine arts education. Take a few minutes to read their responses before you cast your ballot.

Our students deserve opportunities to learn, create, perform, and find their place in the arts. 🧡🎶🎨🎭

In August, the Texas Arts Education Campaign, in collaboration with Texas Music Educators Association, sent a questionnaire to qualified candidates for the Texas Legislature and State Board of Education. Our goal was to gather their views on the importance of fine arts education and share their resp...

🎷🐯 REGION 3 JAZZ BAND! 🐯🎺

We are excited to celebrate our Jazz Cats after Saturday’s All-Region Jazz auditions! Six Commerce High School students auditioned, and TWO earned a seat in the 20-member Region 3 Jazz Band! 🧡🖤

🎸 Gustavo De La Cruz — 11th Grade, Electric Bass ⭐
🎺 Chayton Harkey — 10th Grade, Trumpet

And congratulations to Johanna Trejo, 11th Grade, Alto Saxophone, who was named an Alternate!

Gustavo will also advance to the Area Jazz audition, where he will record for the opportunity to earn a spot in the ATSSB All-State Jazz Ensemble! 🎶

We are incredibly proud of all six students who prepared, practiced, and put themselves out there to audition. Earning 2 of only 20 seats in the Region 3 Jazz Band is something worth celebrating!

Congratulations, Jazz Cats! 🎷🐯

We love sharing positive statistics! 🎨🎭🎶

Fine Arts involvement shines in every aspect of a child’s life. The skills our students develop through music, theatre, art, and other creative experiences reach far beyond the classroom—building confidence, discipline, creativity, collaboration, and a sense of belonging.

We are proud to see the impact Fine Arts continues to have on students! 🧡🐯

Attendance is not only about whether students come to school. It is also about whether they find meaningful reasons to stay engaged when they get there.

According to the Texas Cultural Trust’s 2025 State of the Arts Report, Texas high school students who enrolled in more arts courses had attendance rates two percentage points higher than students with minimal arts participation—the equivalent of approximately six additional school days each year.

This finding shows a meaningful relationship between sustained Fine Arts participation and school attendance. It does not suggest that the arts are the only factor influencing attendance—but it reinforces what educators see every day: connection, purpose and belonging matter.

Fine Arts classrooms give students a place to create, contribute, build relationships and become part of something larger than themselves.

When students are meaningfully engaged in school, showing up matters.
