💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Domestic violence isn’t always visible. It can include threats, intimidation, isolation, financial control, and physical harm.

If you are experiencing abuse, please know: You are not alone. It is not your fault. You deserve to feel safe.

If someone reaches out, listen with compassion, believe them, and offer support without judgment. Together, we can help break the silence. 💜

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic collision that resulted in the death of a man on October 4th, 2026.
On October 4th, 2026 at about 2:40 pm, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a crash between a passenger car and a motorcycle at the intersection of 35th Ave SE and 2nd St SE in Minden Township. Deputies responded to the scene and found the driver of a 2022 BMW motorcycle had suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Deputies and other first responders began providing life saving measures to the motorcycle driver, identified as Mark Skanes Cady, age 66 of Minneapolis. Despite these life saving efforts, Mark Cady died at the scene from his injuries.
Deputies interviewed the driver of the other involved vehicle, a 2016 Honda Odessey. The driver of the Honda was identified as Ahmed Mohamud Haji Isse, age 46 of St. Cloud. Deputies learned that neither Ahmed Isse nor any of his 5 passengers were seriously injured in the crash. Deputies learned that prior to the crash, Mark Cady’s motorcycle was traveling southbound on 35th Ave SE while Ahmed Isse’s Honda was travelling westbound on 2nd St SE. Deputies noted that the traffic on 35th Ave SE has a stop sign at this intersection. Investigating deputies found evidence indicating the front of the Honda Odessey struck the BMW motorcycle broadside in the intersection. Witness statements indicated Cady’s motorcycle failed to stop at the stop sign, and that Cady drove in front of the Honda Odessey just prior to the collision.
The investigation into this crash remains on going. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at this scene by the St. Cloud Police Department, Sauk Rapids Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Sauk Rapids Fire Department, and Mayo Ambulance.

Battery powered bikes and foot scooters are becoming very popular, particularly with children. Concerns regarding rider safety have prompted warnings from medical experts and the creation of new laws regulating their use. Attached to this post is a nice graphic from our partners at Sartell Public Safety. If you have or are considering getting an electric assist bike or scooter, please review this graphic and the rules for these vehicles at https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/ots/safe-driving-information-and-laws/traffic-safety-laws/bicycle-and-pedestrian-laws before you make a purchase or send children out onto public roads with these vehicles.

Descendants LEMC Minnesota describe themselves as “a club built up of a group of brothers and sisters who like to ride for a cause and give back to our communities while enjoying good company.” On July 25th, 2026, the group hosted the “Frontline Benefit Ride” whose purpose was to raise funds to support local law enforcement officers and their families. The ride left Genola, traveled through Brainerd, and ended at Mr. Jim’s in Foley. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office was one of the agencies who provided traffic assistance along the route. Descendants LEMC Minnesota chose to donate $1,200.00 of the donations raised in this event to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. This money will be used to provide support to members of the office in need. We'd like to thank the members of Descendants LEMC Minnesota for their donation and support!
