We only have 3 more Glowforge Laser badging classes until Christmas, and we tend to get very busy in December. One-on-one training sessions will depend on availability of the laser and for Daniel and Stephanie. So, DON"T wait- sign up today!!!!

Check out Elenors pipe cleaner birds she made! Did you know that the City of Fond du Lac is proud to be known as a Bird City Wisconsin? This designation reflects the importance that the Fond du Lac community places on protecting its wildlife—and the habitat that they rely on.

It is amazing how something so intricate and beautiful can be made with some simple craft supplies-- especially ones that we have in the Idea Studio that you can come in and use for free. For these beautiful birds Elenor only used pipe cleaners, a little hot glue and some paint markers to create these amazing birds.

If you can't think of anything to create out of pipe cleaners you can always check out the selection of fun crafting books at our library to get some ideas

Are you looking for a fun Halloween craft project to make for free?

Currently we have several drop-in projects set up in our Mini Art Gallery shelf that we have on our red cart in the Ide Studio. One fun project we set up is to make a small cemetery diorama. Stephanie made this cute example diorama using some yarn, fuse beads, paper, a button, hot glue and a 3D printed headstone. Anyone is welcome to drop in and make your own tiny diorama using any supplies that we have in the space. You can bring in your own tiny trinkets if you would like or pictures to create anything that you can come with!

Inside of our tiny art gallery shelf we have a section of Do It Yourself Zines, a 3D printed cross stitch keychain kit and also our d.i.y. felt ribbon project.

We have a lot of other free arts and crafts supplies that anyone is welcome to come in and use! It is a make-and-take space, so make whatever you would like and bring it home with you- for free!!!!!!!!! Things that are free to use in the space are fuse beads, jewelry making supplies, stickers, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, pom pom and LOTS of yarn!!!!

We also have some fun arts and crafts projects that cost less than a dollar to make in the space. Our buttons are 25 cents each to make, and a sheet of shrinky dink material is just 50 cents. Plus, we have an oven in the space so you can also shrink your materials in our space.

Stephanie cut out some felt shapes on our Glowforge Laser for a fun easy drop-in project. We have lots of ribbon, embroidery thread, beads and felt for you to make your own ribbon/badge! Stephanie sewed these all down when she made some examples, but we also have hot glue guns for a quicker ribbon making experience. Feel free to stop in during our open hours and make your very own fancy ribbon.

Have you ever been intrigued by at-home 3D laser printers?

Did you know that the Idea Studio has a Glowforge Laser Pro that anyone 18 years or older can get trained on to use for free?

Our next Glowforge Laser training class (we call it a "badging" class) is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 20th from 5:30PM - 8 PM in the Idea Studio shop. Currently there are several seats open, and usually this class fills up fast.

We HIGHLY SUGGEST that if you plan to use the laser to make gifts for Christmas or the upcoming holidays, that you get badged on our laser as soon as possible!!! Everyone does have to go through our badging class initially before you can come back in to work on your projects. Once November hits, the laser tends to be one of our popular pieces of equipment that books up quickly.

If you cannot make it to this laser badging class, we do have one scheduled for November 10th and then another on December 1st. The class registration opens for those 2 weeks before the class start date. So, we technically only have 3 more scheduled laser classes before Christmas hits!!!

*** Remember not to wait to get trained on equipment that you will want to make gifts with this holiday season. ***

You can sign up for this class by visiting our website at www.fdlpl.org.com/idea-studio and then click on our calendar to register for our classes.

Check out these pictures from our Mayku Multiplier Mold Maker from our last badging class!!!

What is the Mayku Multiplier and what exactly does it do? It can heat various types of thermoplastic sheets and create molds over templates using pressure generated by an internal compressor. It can precisely control heat and pressure to create flawless highly detailed parts with production-grade thermoplastics!!!

We currently don't have a Mayku class this month, but if you are interested in learning more about this piece of equipment or getting trained on it, please send us an email to [email protected]

One of our regulars, Michelle, was in last week using the Glowforge Laser to cut out and score a daily calendar for her daughter. She has a little one at home and loves using the laser to make fun and practical things that essentially teach her daughter how to read and write. Michelle was super excited for this project so her little one can learn her months and days! She also used some acrylic to cut out some snowy winter themed trees ---- but we are hoping it really doesn't snow for quite a while here đŸ˜‚

If you are interested in getting trained (or as we call it badged), it is a smart idea to get trained on our laser sooner than later! especially if you are planning on using the laser to make gifts in the next 2 months. Our next Glowforge Laser Pro badging class will be held on Tuesday, October 20th, from 5:30 PM - 8 PM. Registration is currently open on our webpage www.fdlpl.org/idea-studio and click on our calendar page.

This class is for patrons ages 18 and over. Registration and library card/account number are required to get badged. Space is strictly limited, so please cancel in advance if you are unable to attend so someone else can fill your empty spot.

Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions

For our October Creativebug Club we will explore making Spooky Specimens.

We will transform plastic toys with acrylic paint and mount them onto wooden plaques to create frightfully sophisticated Halloween home decor. Supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring in small plastic toys under 5" (not stretchy) such as insects, animals, skulls, bones- anything "creepy or spooky" for Halloween.

This event is open to patrons 10 years and older. Anyone under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entirety of the class. Registration is required for each person joining this class, so please sign up to reserve your spot.
Registration for this event is currently open.

If you are unable to attend, please contact the library to cancel your seat to give other patrons a chance to join the class.
