We are very sad to announce the sudden passing of Retired Captain Mike Smith. Mike was a huge part of our family and department. He pushed everyone to be better and to better our department. Mike was looking forward to full retirement next year to the Beach. He was a full time fire dispatcher for Oak Lawn. Please keep Mike, his wife, family, FHFD, friends, and his Oak Lawn family in your prayers.

Fire crews are currently at 1400 Woodlawn fir the roof being blown off in the storm. Please avoid the area.

Yesterday, The duty crew assisted at an even with Mayor Wilson. Candidate Firefighter/EMT Driskill Sr. Demonstrated to the kids how to use a hose line.
Later in the afternoon, the crew was at the Ford Heights Boys & Girls Club for a basketball camp. The camp was held by the Sauk Village Fire Department in partnership with the Ford Height Fire Department.
With the high temperatures and humidity, the crew elected to accompany training with helping the kids cool down.

A visitation to honor Chris’s life will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 3 - 7 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, Indiana. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Burns, Crown Point. Interment Historic Maplewood Cemetery.
